Healthcare IT / EHR Documentation Consultant

We are seeking an experienced Healthcare IT/EHR Consultant to support a four-week enterprise Women’s Services documentation project for a large multi-hospital health system transitioning obstetrical physician services from a global reimbursement model to fee-for-service. The consultant will work closely with our physician executive, clinical documentation and coding resources, Women’s Services leadership, practicing OB physicians, and the health system’s internal IT/EHR team. The primary responsibility will be to translate revised physician documentation standards into practical, efficient, and technically feasible EHR workflows and documentation tools. Key Responsibilities Review existing OB physician note templates, SmartPhrases/SmartTexts, SmartLists, and related documentation workflows. Identify technical and workflow limitations within existing templates and documentation tools. Translate recommended clinical and documentation changes into clear specifications for the health system’s IT/EHR team. Collaborate directly with IT/EHR personnel to assess the technical feasibility of proposed SmartPhrases, SmartTexts, SmartLists, templates, and automated fields within the existing EHR environment. Identify opportunities to auto-populate existing clinical information and minimize unnecessary physician documentation burden. Participate in testing and validation of revised documentation tools. Support user-acceptance testing with practicing OB physicians. Troubleshoot template, formatting, workflow, or functionality issues identified during testing. Assist with screenshots and workflow demonstrations for physician education. Support development of a HealthStream physician education module demonstrating how to effectively use the new documentation tools. Maintain clear documentation of final build recommendations, changes, testing results, and outstanding IT items. Ideal Background Significant experience with Epic or a comparable enterprise EHR system. Hands-on experience with physician note templates, SmartPhrases/SmartTexts, SmartLists, or related clinical documentation tools. Experience working collaboratively with physicians, CDI/coding teams, and health-system IT departments. Strong understanding of clinical workflows and the ability to translate physician needs into clear technical requirements. Women’s Health/OB experience is helpful but not required. Epic certification is preferred but not required if the candidate has strong practical EHR build and implementation experience. Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and efficiently within a compressed four-week implementation timeline. Time Commitment Approximately 10 hours per week for four weeks, with flexibility depending on IT availability, testing schedules, and project needs. This is a highly collaborative, project-based engagement focused on improving physician documentation efficiency, supporting accurate documentation, and translating clinical requirements into practical EHR solutions.
