# Industrial Designer / Mechanical Engineer – Premium Lifestyle Speaker Product Development ( we are developing a full series of speaker brand total Qty 14 of various shapes, sizes and internal complexity) ## About the Project We are developing a **premium lifestyle speaker brand** focused on bringing together **high-end industrial design, exceptional audio performance, and beautiful home/interior aesthetics**. We are looking for an experienced **Industrial Designer / Mechanical Product Development Engineer** to take our original design concepts and sketches and develop them into a **fully engineered, production-ready speaker enclosure and mechanical system**. As a design benchmark, we are inspired by the design philosophy of premium brands such as **Bang & Olufsen**, where the speaker is designed as a beautiful lifestyle/interior object rather than a conventional electronic product. We are particularly interested in the balance between form, materials, proportions, craftsmanship, acoustic requirements, and manufacturability. Bang & Olufsen's product range demonstrates this approach through combinations of aluminum, wood, textiles and carefully resolved mechanical details. **Important:** We are not looking to copy any existing product. The final product must have its own original design language, identity, and construction. ## What We Will Provide Our team will provide: * Original product concept direction * Initial industrial design sketches * Product vision and design intent * Overall product dimensions / design constraints * Guidance on internal component placement * Speaker driver and electronics requirements * Audio engineering support * Electronics engineering support * Feedback and design reviews throughout development You will be responsible for transforming the concept into a **refined, manufacturable physical product**. --- # Scope of Work ### 1. Industrial Design Development Develop and refine the original concept into a sophisticated, premium lifestyle product. Responsibilities include: * Develop the exterior form and overall product proportions * Refine curves, transitions, radii, edges and surface continuity * Develop premium material and finish concepts * Integrate grille / acoustic fabric / perforated elements * Develop buttons, controls, interfaces and other visible details * Integrate branding and visual identity * Create a cohesive premium product language * Ensure the product looks appropriate in a modern residential/interior environment * Explore design details that differentiate the product from conventional speakers The goal is to create a speaker that someone would be proud to display as a **piece of furniture/interior design**, rather than hide as an electronic device. ### 2. Cabinet & Enclosure Design Develop the complete speaker cabinet/enclosure around the provided concept and internal requirements. This includes: * Main cabinet architecture * Front/rear/side panels * Grille and cover systems * Internal mounting features * Fastening strategy * Access panels * Serviceability considerations * Interfaces between different materials * Structural reinforcement * Sealing requirements where applicable * Assembly strategy The cabinet design must accommodate the acoustic and electronic requirements while maintaining the intended exterior design. ### 3. Internal Mechanical Structure Work closely with our audio and electronics engineers to develop the internal architecture. This may include integration of: * Speaker drivers * Amplifier/electronics PCBs * Power supply * Battery, if applicable * Controls * Connectors * Wiring/cable routing * Heat management * Structural brackets * Mounting hardware * Acoustic components * Damping materials * Internal partitions * Service/access features We will provide guidance on component placement and acoustic/electronic requirements. You will translate these requirements into a robust mechanical architecture. ### 4. CAD Development Create detailed 3D CAD models using **SolidWorks or an equivalent professional CAD platform**. Required capabilities include: * Parametric 3D modeling * Complex surface modeling * Assembly modeling * Part modeling * Sheet metal/plastic/enclosure design where applicable * Hardware integration * Tolerance development * Design revisions * Configuration management Final CAD should be organized, clean, editable and suitable for future engineering/manufacturing development. ### 5. Exploded Views & Product Architecture Develop clear product architecture and exploded views showing how the product is assembled. Exploded views should communicate: * Major components * Subassemblies * Fasteners * Internal structure * Cabinet components * Grilles/covers * Electronics mounting * Assembly sequence These will be used for engineering review, manufacturing discussions and future documentation. ### 6. Manufacturing & DFM The product must be designed with actual manufacturing in mind. You will be expected to apply **Design for Manufacturing (DFM)** principles and recommend appropriate manufacturing methods based on the design. Potential processes may include: * CNC machining * Injection molding * Sheet metal fabrication * Aluminum extrusion * Die casting * Vacuum forming * Wood fabrication * Laser cutting * 3D printing/prototyping * Fabric/textile components * Adhesive bonding * Mechanical fastening * Hybrid material construction You should understand how design decisions affect: * Manufacturing cost * Tooling requirements * Assembly time * Tolerances * Surface finish * Material selection * Production scalability * Quality * Serviceability ### 7. Engineering Drawings Create professional manufacturing drawings for the finalized mechanical components. Drawings should include, as appropriate: * Dimensions * GD&T where required * Material specifications * Surface finishes * Critical tolerances * Hardware specifications * Assembly references * Manufacturing notes * Section views * Detail views Drawings should be suitable for sharing with manufacturing suppliers. ### 8. High-Quality Product Visualization Create high-quality product renders showing the final design. Renders should communicate: * Overall product form * Materials * Colors * Finishes * Grille/fabric treatment * Product proportions * Lifestyle positioning * Key design details We are looking for **premium consumer-product-quality visualization**, not basic CAD screenshots. --- # Key Deliverables The successful freelancer will be expected to provide: ### Industrial Design * Original/refined industrial design * Final exterior design * Material and finish recommendations * Product design iterations ### CAD & Engineering * Fully developed 3D CAD assembly * Individual part files * Native CAD files * STEP files * Fully constrained/organized assemblies * Internal mechanical structure * Component mounting architecture ### Engineering Documentation * Manufacturing drawings * Assembly drawings * Section views * Exploded views * Mechanical BOM * Hardware list * Material specifications * Manufacturing documentation * DFM recommendations ### Visualization * High-quality product renders * Multiple product views * Material/finish variations where required * Exploded product visualization --- # Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who combines **industrial design thinking with strong mechanical engineering capability**. Our team will provide the **original creative direction, initial sketches and product vision**. You will take responsibility for developing the design into a technically viable product while working closely with our team on: **Industrial Design → Mechanical Architecture → Component Integration → CAD → Prototyping → DFM → Engineering Documentation** Our audio engineering and electronics team will support the acoustic and electronics requirements, while you will own the **mechanical product development and physical product architecture**. We expect several design iterations and engineering reviews before reaching the final production-ready design. --- # What We Would Like to See in Your Proposal Examples of the proposal 1. **Portfolio of 3–5 relevant projects** 2.
