IBM z/OS Mainframe Systems Programmer – BPXBATCH & JCL Cloud Integration

We are seeking an experienced IBM z/OS Systems Programmer to assist with optimizing a mainframe-to-cloud data pipeline. The goal is to refine our BPXBATCH JCL execution and batch workflows to ensure fast, secure, and reliable automated file delivery from z/OS to external endpoints. Scope of Work: - Review & Refine JCL: Audit our existing batch JCL and multi-step setup used to package source documentation and pointer files. - Optimize BPXBATCH Execution: Ensure reliable, near-real-time execution of UNIX System Services (USS) commands from batch jobs without unnecessary queuing or overhead. - Error & Condition Code Handling: Fix/standardize multi-step return codes (handling z/OS USS exit statuses/condition codes accurately) and set up clean failover messaging if external services are unavailable. - Security & Parameters: Ensure proper passing of parameters, credentials, and temporary data sets while adhering to standard RACF security practices. - Collaboration & Testing: Work with our application developers and cloud infrastructure engineer to test JCL scripts in our test environment. Required Qualifications: - Strong expertise as an IBM z/OS Mainframe Systems Programmer. - Advanced hands-on experience with JCL, z/OS UNIX System Services (USS), and BPXBATCH. - Solid understanding of RACF security context, mainframe network paths, and batch job flows. - Experience with mainframe-to-cloud file transfer mechanisms / web endpoints. - Familiarity with COBOL compile and build listing flows is a plus. Preferred Candidate Attributes: - Clear communication skills for technical coordination with our cloud/server backend team. - Ability to troubleshoot independently and deliver clean, well-documented JCL templates.
