AI Illustrator for Educational Word Packs

We are an educational publishing company looking for a skilled AI Illustrator to generate and refine illustrations for our vocabulary word packs. You will use provided prompts, reference images, and character sheets to create high-quality, consistent illustrations using our AI image generation tool. This is an ongoing role with the potential for regular, recurring work as we scale production. We are looking for a bright, capable person who can own this process end-to-end. 📹 A video walkthrough of the full process is Upwork Video .mov. Tools & Access You must have access to the following: Tool Details Nano Banana https://imgeditor.co/ Active account with sufficient credits. You will generate images using NB2 at 4K resolution. Claude Active Claude Pro account. Used for iterating on prompts, QA-ing generated images (e.g., "does this illustration represent the word X?"), and checking character consistency. MediaValet We will grant you read-only access to our asset library for finding reference images. Google Drive We will share folders containing character sheets, reference images, style guides, and pack metadata. Read-only access. Photoshop To access our psd files and convert them into images for use with Nano Banana The Process (Per Word) For each word, you will receive the full pack context (all words, metadata, definitions, synonyms, word pairs, etc.) so you understand the bigger picture. You will also receive: All relevant reference images (character refs, props, existing illustrations) The character sheets Your workflow for each word: Review the pack and word metadata — Understand the word, its context in the pack, and what the illustration needs to convey. Review the provided references — Character sheets, prop images, and any existing illustrations we've provided. These are given to you — no searching required. Generate the illustration — Use Nano Banana (NB2 + 4K) with the provided prompt and reference images. QA the output — Upload the generated image to Claude use this skill Claude Skill and ask: "Does this illustration clearly represent the word [X]?" Iterate and correct — Use Claude to refine your prompts. Re-generate in Nano Banana until the image is on-model and clearly represents the word. Upload the final image — Upload the approved 4K illustration to Google Drive and paste the link in the tracking sheet. Complete the tracking sheet — Fill in the required fields in the Google Sheet (see Deliverables section). ⏱ Target time per image: 15–20 minutes (including generation, QA, re-prompts, and upload) Deliverables For each image, you will deliver: 1. Final 4K illustration — uploaded to google drive with a link in the column. 2. No CV or portfolio needed — just do the task. Review the horse prop reference image. Using Nano Banana, generate an illustration of Stax and Plato jousting on horses. Use the provided references to ensure the characters and horse are on-model and consistent with our style. QA your output — upload to Claude and ask: "Does this illustration clearly represent jousting?" Also check against the character sheets for any errors. Iterate using Claude to refine prompts. Re-generate in Nano Banana until the image meets the spec. Deliver the final 4K image. Fill in the tracking fields (time taken, corrections, re-prompts, Claude QA result, observations). ⚠ Important: Please be precise with your timing. We have benchmarked this process internally and consistently produce images within 20 minutes. If your test task significantly exceeds this timeframe, we will not be able to proceed with your application. What we're evaluating: Can you produce a quality illustration within the 15–20 minute target? Do you spot and correct character inconsistencies? Are your prompt corrections effective (using Claude)? Does the final image clearly represent the word "jousting"? How clearly do you communicate your process and any issues? We have already produced our own version of this illustration internally. We will compare your output against ours to assess quality and consistency. Requirements Active Nano Banana account (https://imgeditor.co/) with sufficient credits. Active Claude Pro account (Anthropic). Strong attention to detail — you must spot when a character is off-model. Ability to iterate quickly and write clear, effective prompts. Good communication skills to flag issues. Comfortable working with project management software (ClickUp).
