InDesign Template Setup for Variable-Field Report Production — production role, NOT design

InDesign Template Setup for Variable-Field Report Production — production role, NOT design **Read the brief before you apply for this project** We have a finished, approved InDesign report template (a ~13-page personalised client report, plus attached data reports at the back). We need an InDesign production specialist to set it up so a non-designer can produce each client's version by editing ONLY the variable fields, without touching the fixed design or content. * WHAT THIS IS: setting up an existing, approved InDesign file for repeatable production — making the variable fields safely editable, single-sourcing repeated values, protecting the fixed content, and writing a short how-to guide for a non-designer. * WHAT THIS IS NOT: a design job. The layout, typography, images, copy, and branding are DONE and locked. We are not commissioning any new design, redesign, or restyling, and we won't accept changes to the wording. If you would approach this as a design project, please don't apply. What you'll do: - Using a field inventory we provide (a list of every variable field and where it appears), set up the template so variable fields are clearly identifiable and safely editable, and all fixed content is protected/locked. - Single-source the repeated values so they're changed once, not in several places — for example, one figure appears in around seven locations across the document. (InDesign text variables or a similar method.) - Make sure figures embedded in body text, not just in tables, are captured. - Ensure paragraph and character styles are set up so edits keep their formatting automatically. - Two small fixes: a couple of contents-page spacing typos, and updating one date. - Write a short, plain "how to update this template" guide for our (non-designer) assistant. What we'll provide: - The packaged InDesign file (.indd + fonts + links). - A field inventory listing every variable field. Deliverables: - The set-up, packaged InDesign file. - The "how to update" guide (Word or PDF). - A short screen-recording (2-5 min) showing you populate a sample and export the final PDF. How your work will be judged: we populate the finished template with obviously fake, distinct test values and export the PDF — every value on every page must be one of those test values, with nothing left over from the original sample. We also confirm our non-designer assistant can produce a report from your guide alone. (Full acceptance criteria in the brief once engaged.) You should be strong with: InDesign text variables, paragraph/character styles, master pages, layers, and packaging/preflight — and able to write clear instructions for a non-technical user. To apply, please answer this one question: In InDesign, how would you set up a document so a non-designer can change a value that appears in seven different places by editing it only once? A short, specific answer is fine — it tells us you've done this kind of production work. Please also share one example of a template or production-setup project you've done (not portfolio design work).
