Summary

We are currently in production on a project 粵拼秘笈 (Jyutping Made Easy) — a 36-booklet Cantonese phonics reader series modelled on Bob Books. Each booklet teaches children a set of sounds in spoken Cantonese through short, illustrated stories, using Jyutping romanization alongside Traditional Chinese and English text. Set 1 (12 booklets) is fully designed and production-ready in Adobe InDesign. We are now looking for an experienced bilingual print designer to carry Sets 2 and 3 through the same production process, and to complete the box packaging design and instruction card. This is a well-prepared project: you will have access to finished Set 1 InDesign files as a master template, fully prepared manuscripts with typesetting briefs for both sets, and a dedicated point of contact throughout. We are not asking you to build design logic from scratch — we are asking you to apply and adapt an established system. Scope of work: 1. Typesetting — Sets 2 and 3 (24 booklets) - Trim size: 147 × 147 mm - Bleed: 3 mm on all sides - Binding: saddle stitch - Page count: 20 pages per booklet (content page), front / back cover included - Color mode: CMYK throughout - Content: bilingual Traditional Chinese + English, with Cantonese Jyutping romanization on every story page - Output: print-ready PDF/X-1a per booklet, plus packaged InDesign source files Manuscripts are provided in Word format with full Jyutping annotations and per-book typesetting briefs. Illustration files are delivered per booklet by our illustrator and placed by you into the established picture frames. Instructions provided. 2. Box packaging — all three sets (3 boxes) Format print-ready packaging files for three box sets (one per set). Cover illustrations for all three boxes are complete and provided. Your role is to lay out the provided text content — English and Traditional Chinese — across all box panels (front, back, both sides, top, bottom) following the established brand typography and style. This is primarily a layout and formatting task, not a creative concepting task. Minimal design input is required beyond positioning, typesetting, and ensuring print-ready output (CMYK, bleed, die-line ready). 3. Instruction card - all three sets Design a print-ready instruction card to accompany the box sets, guiding parents through how to use the series with their child. A written draft and brief will be provided. Exact card format (folded, double-sided, etc.) to be confirmed with the successful applicant; content is bilingual English and Traditional Chinese. Required skills: - Adobe InDesign — expert level; print production workflow including bleeds, CMYK, and PDF/X export - Traditional Chinese typography — experience typesetting documents with mixed Chinese and English content is essential; Jyutping or other romanization familiarity is a plus - Print production — comfortable working to printer specifications and packaging die-line requirements - Packaging layout — experience setting out multi-panel box or carton files for print - Meticulous attention to detail and ability to follow and maintain an established visual system Nice to have: - Familiarity with Jyutping romanization or Cantonese phonics - Experience in children's publishing or educational materials - Cantonese language knowledge (content is provided; language ability is not required, but helps) How to apply: Please include in your message: 1. Prior relevant work experience — particularly any bilingual (Chinese/English) print work, book or booklet layouts, or packaging design you've completed; Work samples not essential 2. A brief note on your CJK typography experience — what tools and fonts you've used for Chinese typesetting, and any challenges you've navigated 3. Your proposed fee or rate for the full scope, or broken out by workstream if you prefer Budget is open — we are looking for the right fit and will discuss figures with shortlisted applicants.
