Independent DOT Compliance & Safety Consultant

Hauls LLC Location: Remote (must be available during business hours) Fleet Size: 6 Trucks Position Overview A.P. Hauls LLC is seeking an experienced Independent DOT Compliance & Safety Consultant to oversee the daily safety and compliance of our trucking fleet. We are looking for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable in FMCSA regulations, Hours of Service (HOS), and electronic logging devices. This is not a one-time consulting position. We need someone who will actively monitor our drivers every day to help prevent violations, improve our safety performance, and ensure our company remains compliant with FMCSA regulations. Responsibilities Monitor driver logs daily using Motive ELD Review Hours of Service (HOS) and identify potential violations before they occur Contact drivers when corrections or coaching are needed Verify drivers are completing accurate pre-trip and post-trip DVIR inspections Ensure drivers are following company safety policies and FMCSA regulations Monitor unsafe driving habits and compliance concerns Coach drivers on HOS compliance, roadside inspections, and safe driving practices Review roadside inspections and violations Assist in improving our FMCSA CSA/Safety Score Recommend corrective actions to reduce violations and improve compliance Work directly with management regarding safety concerns and driver performance Help prepare the company for DOT audits and maintain compliance records Assist with safety meetings and driver education as needed Qualifications Minimum 2- 3 years of DOT Safety or Compliance experience Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations Experience using Motive ELD (required) Thorough understanding of Hours of Service regulations Experience reviewing electronic logs and editing logs when appropriate Knowledge of Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) and pre-trip inspection requirements Experience helping fleets improve CSA/Safety Scores Strong communication and coaching skills Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Preferred Experience Previous Safety Manager or DOT Compliance Manager experience Experience supporting small trucking fleets (5–20 trucks) Experience with DOT audits and safety ratings Knowledge of Driver Qualification (DQ) Files and DOT recordkeeping Our goal is to build a strong safety culture, reduce violations, improve our CSA score, and keep our drivers operating safely every day.
