Industrial Designer / CAD Engineer Needed for New Consumer Product (Apple Magic Mouse Accessory) – Long-Term Opportunity Project Overview We are looking for an experienced Industrial Designer and Mechanical CAD Engineer to help bring an innovative consumer product to market. The product is called Clickimals™, a collection of adorable 3D-printed animal companions that transform an Apple Magic Mouse into a fun, comfortable, and collectible desktop accessory. Unlike a simple decorative shell, Clickimals is designed to become a premium consumer product with professional engineering, excellent ergonomics, and retail-quality packaging. This is not simply a cosmetic model—we are looking for someone who understands consumer product development, manufacturing, and design for 3D printing. The ideal candidate will become a long-term member of our development team as additional Clickimals characters and accessories are released. About Clickimals™ Clickimals are collectible animal characters that fit securely over an Apple Magic Mouse while maintaining all of its functionality. The current product line includes: Kitty Puppy Bunny Raccoon Additional characters will follow. Each Clickimal should: Snap securely onto the Apple Magic Mouse Be easy to install and remove Allow full charging capability Maintain access to all touch gestures Preserve Apple's smooth scrolling experience Feel comfortable during extended daily use Look premium from every angle Be optimized for commercial FDM 3D printing The final product should appear to be a professionally engineered consumer accessory rather than a hobbyist 3D print. Current Status We already have: Product concept Branding Logo Character artwork Packaging concepts Product renderings Design direction We now require an experienced professional to convert the concepts into production-ready engineering files. Scope of Work The successful applicant will: Phase 1 – Design Review Review all supplied materials including: Concept images Branding Packaging concepts Product requirements Apple Magic Mouse dimensions Provide recommendations for improvements before modeling begins. Phase 2 – Industrial Design Create a refined consumer product design that includes: Excellent proportions Comfortable hand feel Proper weight distribution Natural finger placement Clean modern appearance Hidden seams where possible Minimal support requirements during printing The design should look like something sold by Apple or Logitech. Phase 3 – Mechanical Engineering Create complete CAD models including: Main body Bottom opening Mouse retention system Internal support structure Wall thickness optimization Snap-fit features (if appropriate) Charging port access Manufacturing tolerances Fillets and draft where required Strength optimization Design specifically for: Bambu Lab printers PETG PLA Optional future injection molding considerations Phase 4 – Apple Magic Mouse Functionality The design must preserve: Left click Right click Multi-touch gestures Scrolling Swipe gestures Comfortable daily use We are exploring a feature that allows users to scroll naturally by sliding their finger along the back/top of the Clickimal while the Magic Mouse touch surface continues to register scrolling. Experience designing around touch-sensitive interfaces is a plus. Phase 5 – 3D Printing Optimization Optimize the design for FDM printing. Consider: Print orientation Layer strength Overhang reduction Support reduction Material efficiency Fast production Surface quality Repeatable print success Design should require minimal post-processing. Phase 6 – Engineering Drawings Provide complete manufacturing drawings including: Dimensions Tolerances Material recommendations Assembly details Cross sections Exploded views where required Deliverables Final files should include: CAD STEP STL 3MF Native CAD files (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Onshape, etc.) Engineering Dimensioned drawings Assembly drawings Manufacturing notes Tolerance drawings Rendering High-quality product renders suitable for marketing including: Front Rear Side Top Bottom Isometric Exploded view Required Experience Please only apply if you have experience with: Consumer product design Industrial design Mechanical engineering Injection molded products Snap-fit assemblies FDM 3D printing Manufacturing-ready CAD Product commercialization Experience designing accessories for Apple products is highly desirable.
