Interactive Attraction Designer

Summary

We operate a challenge game facility with proprietary themed game rooms, and we're expanding. We design and fabricate our own interactive attractions. We're looking for a designer to create immersive and engaging experiences for our game rooms. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing interactive elements and a strong understanding of user experience. This is a part-time role that may start small and expand depending on capabilities and deliverables. Example projects: A swinging axe obstacle (pendulum mechanism, mounting, safety factors) A wall-mounted ball hopper that releases balls into multiple routing tubes (gating/release mechanism, ball flow, jam prevention) A linear motor and track system to raise and lower a foam block, including safety provisions (end stops, fail-safes, pinch-point protection) A simple adjustable mount for a laser emitter, allowing precise alignment to a receiver across a room Rotating columns with motorized arms, moving platforms, and similar player-facing mechanical elements What you'll do: Turn rough concepts into CAD models and fabrication-ready drawings (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar) Select motors, actuators, bearings, and off-the-shelf hardware Design for safety, durability, and high-cycle commercial use (these run all day with the public) Recommend materials and fabrication methods (we work with steel, aluminum extrusion/truss, 3D printing, and local fab shops) Ideal background: Mechanical engineering or industrial design with real-world fabrication experience Experience with amusement attractions, theming, kinetic sculpture, escape rooms, stage automation, or similar is a big plus Comfortable designing mechanisms that integrate with electronics (we handle the sensor side in-house) Practical mindset, designs need to be buildable and maintainable, not just pretty Engagement: Starting with one or two paid trial projects, with ongoing work for the right person as we build out new rooms and expand to additional locations. To apply, share examples of mechanisms or attractions you've designed — especially anything that moved, swung, dropped, or released under player interaction.
