Summary

Technical Designer — Interior Theming & Layout (Remote, Part-Time) About BLU Black Light Unity International (BLU) provides interior theming for family entertainment centers — laser tag arenas, bowling alleys, trampoline parks, and similar venues — specializing in UV reactive, blacklight print. We work with clients around the world, predominantly in North America and Europe, turning new and existing spaces into immersive themed environments. About the Role We're looking for a technical designer who can bridge the gap between a client's raw venue measurements and a print-ready design layout. A core part of this role is advising clients on exactly how to capture their space — what to measure, how to measure it, and what reference materials to provide — so the data we receive is efficient to work with and doesn't require costly back-and-forth. You'll then take that data and build the layouts our design and production team can theme and print with confidence. This is part-time, remote, project-based work — ideal for someone who wants an ongoing pipeline of projects rather than a single gig or a full-time role. What You'll Do Advise clients on the most efficient way to capture accurate venue measurements — determining what data, tools, and methods will get us what we need in the fewest steps and with the least room for error Consult directly with clients (or via our sales team) to walk through measurement requirements before capture begins Review submitted measurements for completeness and accuracy, flagging gaps or inconsistencies before layout work begins Build precise 2D/3D layouts from client-supplied measurements, ready to hand off for theming and print production Maintain measurement guides and layout templates so the intake-to-layout process stays consistent and improves over time Collaborate with our production team to ensure layouts translate cleanly into printable, fabricated output What We're Looking For Experience in technical drafting or design layout work (CAD, SketchUp, or similar); familiarity with 3D tools like Blender or Unreal Engine 5 is a strong plus Ability to think through a client's likely constraints (tools available, experience level, venue access) and recommend a measurement approach that fits them Strong attention to detail — a missed measurement or misread dimension affects everything downstream Clear written communication for consulting with clients on what's needed and why Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, and flag problems before they become production issues Experience with entertainment venues, exhibit design, or themed environments is a bonus, not a requirement Our Hiring Process Application review — portfolio and resume screen Short written exchange — a couple of questions about how you'd advise a client on capturing measurements for a real-style venue, to see how you think and communicate Paid trial project — a real-style scenario where you'll both advise on measurement capture and build a layout from a deliberately incomplete or inconsistent measurement set (as client submissions often are). You'll be compensated at the standard rate below for this trial, regardless of outcome. Decision — ongoing project pipeline for the right fit Compensation US$15–20/hour, depending on experience and demonstrated ability Rate increases available over time based on demonstrated ability and work volume — this isn't a fixed ceiling Logistics Remote, part-time, project-based workload Flexible hours; some overlap with Asia-Pacific working hours preferred for coordination To Apply Send your portfolio, resume, and a brief note on your experience with technical drafting or layout work to [contact/application link]. Include a sample layout if you have one on hand.
