Japanese Illustrator for Notebook Collection
Worldwide
# Japanese Minimalist Illustration Project Hello, I am looking for a Japanese illustrator to create a series of original minimalist illustrations for a premium notebook collection inspired by Japanese aesthetics and the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi. About the Project The notebook will contain approximately 250 pages. Rather than filling the notebook with illustrations, I would like them to appear as quiet moments throughout the book, inviting reflection and creating a contemplative reading experience. The artwork should feel genuinely rooted in Japanese culture and artistic sensibility while remaining minimal, elegant, and timeless. Scope of Work The initial scope includes: - 5 original full-page interior illustrations, placed approximately every 50 pages throughout the notebook. - 1 illustrated front endpaper** (the decorative page inside the front cover). - 1 Wabi-Sabi kanji seal, featuring the kanji 侘寂, designed as a simple square seal inspired by traditional Japanese *hanko* stamps. The notebook cover will be discussed as a separate project. Illustration Theme The illustrations may feature combinations of: - A calm lake - A small boat - Mountains and distant landscapes and/or temples - Traditional Japanese trees (pine, maple, bamboo, etc.) - Natural scenery inspired by Japan - Peaceful, contemplative compositions Rather than telling a story, each illustration should evoke a feeling of stillness, simplicity, and quiet beauty. Preferred Style I am looking for artwork inspired by: - Traditional Japanese aesthetics - Sumi-e (Japanese ink painting) - Minimalist line art - Wabi-Sabi philosophy - Zen-inspired compositions - Strong use of negative space - Elegant, refined, and timeless visual language I am not looking for manga, anime, or highly detailed illustrations. Simplicity, subtlety, and authenticity are essential. Usage Rights The illustrations will be used commercially as part of a premium notebook collection sold internationally. Please let me know: - Commercial usage rights - Exclusive usage rights (if available) - Licensing terms - Number of revisions included Artist Credit I deeply value the artist's work and creative contribution. If we work together, I would be honored to include a dedicated credit inside the notebook mentioning the illustrator's name. The exact placement (for example, at the beginning or end of the notebook) will be decided during the final layout. My goal is not simply to commission artwork, but to celebrate the artist behind it and create a meaningful connection between the artwork, the product, and the people who use it. Please let me know how you would prefer to be credited. Portfolio If possible, please share examples of previous work that reflects Japanese aesthetics, minimalist illustration, sumi-e influences, or similar projects. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully creating something beautiful together.
