Junior Industrial / CAD Designer for Lighting
Worldwide
Junior Industrial / CAD Designer for Lighting Product Development We are developing a new premium lighting collection and are looking for a skilled **Junior Industrial Designer / Mechanical CAD Designer** to help translate our existing product concepts into clear CAD and technical documentation for our OEM manufacturing partners. This is **not a concept-design project**. The visual design, design language, key dimensions, materials and product requirements are already defined. Your role will primarily be to turn our existing product designs into professional 3D CAD and preliminary construction documentation that an experienced lighting manufacturer can use as the basis for engineering and prototyping. ## Products The collection includes: * pendant lights * wall lights * floor lamps * table lamps * rechargeable table lamps * outdoor lighting The main materials are: * brushed / satin bronze-finished metal * frosted opal glass * clear ribbed glass The design language is minimalist, architectural and premium. --- # What We Need From You For each selected product, we need: ### 1. 3D CAD Model Create an accurate 3D model based on: * our existing reference images * approved dimensions * design documentation * product specifications The external design must remain faithful to our existing product concept. --- ### 2. Basic Construction Concept Develop a preliminary mechanical construction showing how the main product parts could fit together. For example: * glass sections * bronze centre band * end caps * canopy * stems * base * wall mounting plate * internal support structure * basic connection between components The objective is not to fully engineer the product independently. The OEM manufacturer will later optimise the internal engineering. --- ### 3. Component Breakdown Identify and model the main physical components of the product. We want the design separated into logical manufacturing parts rather than one solid 3D object. Examples: * glass component * machined metal component * housing * canopy * mounting bracket * centre band * base * internal support component --- ### 4. Exploded View Create a clear exploded view showing the proposed product assembly. --- ### 5. 2D Technical Drawings Provide drawings showing the important external dimensions and main component dimensions. Drawings should be suitable for discussion with an OEM manufacturer. --- ### 6. Manufacturing Files Required deliverables: * STEP files * native CAD files * dimensioned PDF drawings * exploded assembly drawing * basic component list --- # IMPORTANT — ENGINEERING BOUNDARY You are NOT expected to independently engineer: * LED electronics * LED drivers * detailed PCB design * thermal simulation * DALI electronics * battery electronics * product certification * final heatsink design These areas will be developed together with our OEM lighting manufacturer. Where internal engineering has not yet been defined, clearly mark it as: **TBD / OEM TO ENGINEER** Do not invent unsupported engineering details. --- # Design Accuracy It is very important that you do not redesign the products. We already have an established industrial design. Your job is to translate the existing design into CAD while preserving: * proportions * silhouette * dimensions * glass-to-metal relationships * bronze details * canopy sizes * centre-band proportions * overall minimalist appearance Small technical changes may later be required for manufacturing, but visible design changes must be approved by us. --- # CAD Software Preferred: * SolidWorks * Fusion 360 * Autodesk Inventor * Creo Rhino may also be acceptable if you have experience producing manufacturing-ready solid models and STEP files. Please tell us which software you work in. --- # Initial Test Project We want to begin with **one lighting product**. For the first product we will provide: * reference images * existing design documentation * dimensions * technical requirements * material specifications You will create the initial CAD and technical drawing package. If the result is good, there are approximately **9 products in this collection**, with additional products planned afterwards. We are therefore looking for someone interested in an ongoing collaboration. --- # When Applying Please provide: 1. Examples of physical products you have modelled in CAD. 2. Examples of technical/manufacturing drawings. 3. Examples of exploded product assemblies. 4. Your CAD software. 5. Whether you can deliver native CAD + STEP. 6. Any experience with lighting products. 7. Any experience with metal, glass or furniture products. 8. Your hourly rate. 9. Your estimated cost for developing one relatively simple lighting product from existing references into CAD + drawings. Please do not send only rendering / CGI portfolios. We need someone comfortable creating **real product CAD and technical drawings for manufacturing discussions**.
