LaTeX / Beamer Developer — Ongoing Educational Slide Production
Worldwide
FULL DRQT SLIDE PRODUCTION (LATEX / BEAMER) FOR EMP ABOUT EMP Explicit Mathematics Program (EMP) is an Australian primary mathematics program which provides teachers and schools world-class mathematics teaching resources. Our resources are already in use with over 50,000 students in thousands of classrooms across Australia. The impact of the program on student outcomes has already been phenomenal, and we know that the program will only continue to grow in the coming years. All of our resources are written in LaTeX, and we are looking for an experienced LaTeX / Beamer developer to take the lead on producing our DRQT slide decks (the rapid-review teaching slides at the heart of our program) on an ongoing, long-term basis. WHAT YOU WILL DO Take detailed specification documents from our curriculum team and turn them into polished, compiled Beamer PDFs that match our house style Write and maintain custom LaTeX commands (this is core to the role, not occasional) Work heavily with Beamer overlay and animation logic (onslide, click-to-reveal sequencing, multi-stage builds) to create the illusion of animation across slide sets Work in Overleaf within a defined file structure (styling / preamble / main separation), compiling via pdfLaTeX Produce work with precision and consistency, because our program lives or dies by the quality and exactness of our resources You will not do any of the mathematical thinking or pedagogical design. The curriculum team specifies everything. Your job is to translate spec into code into final output, precisely and consistently. PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING This is specialist work, not general LaTeX typesetting. If you have used LaTeX for papers and theses but have not written your own custom commands or worked with Beamer overlays, this is likely not the right fit. There is a genuine learning curve to our system, and we are hiring someone who can climb it. By way of reassurance, both our CEO and our Director of Curriculum Ops, both with non-coding backgrounds, have got their heads around the process, so it is more than possible for a clever person with an experienced coding background. HOW THIS WORKS We shortlist a small number of applicants from proposals Shortlisted candidates are paid a fixed fee to complete a short trial task, building a real DRQT slide set from one of our specification documents in Overleaf The trial is the single best way for us to see how you work, and for you to see whether the work suits you Strong performers move into ongoing, regular work, with the rate agreed per person We run the trial with a handful of people in parallel, so being shortlisted is not a guarantee of ongoing work, but the trial is always paid and we will be clear with you throughout THERE IS ROOM TO GROW This is a real, recurring production role with genuine room to grow. By way of example, our first admin hire is now our General Manager, and a more recent admin hire was promoted within two months to Head of Curriculum Operations. The successful applicant will always be point person on DRQT production and this will always be their first priority to get right, but for a capable candidate there will be significant opportunities to take on more of our LaTeX production over time (Teacher Lesson Books, Student Workbooks, and more). WHAT YOU MUST HAVE Strong LaTeX experience, including writing your own custom commands, not just using existing packages Hands-on Beamer experience, specifically with overlays and staged reveals Comfort working in Overleaf with a defined file structure Precision, consistency, and strong attention to detail Responsiveness and availability for ongoing work Attention check: please begin your proposal with the word beamerready so we know you have read this post in full WHAT WE PROVIDE A locked Beamer styling file (colours, header, footer, frame titles, buttons) Clear specification documents for every slide set Worked examples and an example of completed code A documented notation system for interpreting the specs A dedicated contact for day-to-day communication TO APPLY, YOUR PROPOSAL MUST INCLUDE ALL FOUR A link to prior LaTeX / Beamer work (a compiled PDF or repo is ideal), with a brief explanation of what was custom-coded and why, for example custom commands or overlays, rather than standard package use Your confirmation that you are comfortable with custom command writing and Beamer overlay and animation logic Your weekly availability and earliest start date One of our key company values is transparency. If you use AI in your proposal, please detail how you used it and include a link to the chat. AI usage will not be penalised in any way, however it is crucial for us to see exactly how you have used it Proposals without all four items will not be reviewed. Thank you so much for your interest in EMP and we look forward to hearing from you!
