I run a busy family law practice and need a reliable legal assistant to support day-to-day operations. You will handle client-facing communication, calendar management, and drafting routine filings using my templates and instructions. *You will not give legal advice.* This role fits someone who works carefully, follows written directions, and meets deadlines without reminders. What you will do - Communicate with clients by email and phone (scheduling, document requests, status updates) - Manage my calendar (court dates, deadlines, reminders, follow-ups) - Draft and format legal documents using templates (e.g., affirmations/affidavits, notices, letters, exhibit lists, proposed orders) - Prepare exhibits (PDF assembly, bookmarking if needed, labeling, redactions as instructed) - Organize case files - Track deadlines and maintain case checklists - Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive family and child-related information What I’m looking for Required: - Prior experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, or legal admin (family law strongly preferred) - Strong writing and proofreading skills (clean grammar, consistent formatting) - Excellent attention to detail (names, dates, docket numbers, exhibits, service addresses) - Fast, professional client communication - Strong document skills: Microsoft Office + PDF tools (Adobe Acrobat or equivalent) - Reliable internet and consistent availability - Comfort working from templates and checklists Preferred (not required): Experience with New York family law filings and court scheduling Experience with e-filing systems (e.g., NYSCEF) and service packages Familiarity with Smokeball Availability / Time Zone I prefer coverage aligned with Eastern Time (New York) for at least part of the day. Expected workload: [10–20 hours/week to start], with room to grow. How we’ll work - I assign tasks in writing with a deadline. You confirm receipt and ask questions early. - You use my templates and return drafts in Word and PDF format. - You flag missing facts or inconsistent information (dates, names, locations) before I file.
