Looking for a Creative YouTube Editor (Storytelling, Comedy & Retention)

Summary

I’m looking for a video editor who understands that great YouTube videos are not just about editing. They’re also about storytelling, pacing, emotion, and comedic timing. This is not just a one-off editing position. I’m looking for someone who wants to become part of the channel’s growth and potentially build a long-term creative partnership. As the channel grows, there is potential for this role to grow alongside it. Pricing can be discussed through hourly rates, fixed rates, or potentially percentage-based arrangements as the channel grows and transitions. Where compensation scales with the success of the videos. The goal is for both of us to benefit from building something successful together. I’m not looking for someone who relies on constant flashy effects, transitions, memes, or over-editing. I believe the best edits are often simple but purposeful, where every cut, sound effect, visual, and pacing decision has a reason behind it. I run a growing monetised Roblox/Bloxburg YouTube channel, and I’m looking for someone who can help take my videos to the next level by bringing a style inspired by creators like Ryan Trahan: authentic storytelling, strong hooks, creative visual comedy, and edits that keep viewers engaged. For context, some videos that capture the type of storytelling/editing style I admire: * “I Spent 100 Days in the Metaverse” * “I Survived Sensory Deprivation” * “I Built A Tiny Ecosystem” * “I Tried America's Dirtiest Job” (the creativity of the intro) Of course, I’m not looking to copy Ryan Trahan’s style directly. I’m looking for someone who understands the techniques behind what makes his videos work and can help develop a unique style for my own channel. Sometimes using simplistic arial text on screen helps to resonate with the collective since this is a universally utilised style. Which helps ground the video into something people understand. No need for overly complicated editing but something intentional. What stands out to me about these videos is how every moment feels intentional. The editing supports the story, whether that means emphasizing a funny moment, building suspense, adding personality through visuals, making a moment more emotional, or turning a simple idea into something much more engaging. This is where editing is the magic that makes this happen ## What I’m looking for: I’m looking for someone who can think creatively alongside me, not just someone who follows instructions I'd love a creative individual where our ideas can bounce of each other and take suggestions from one another. While I currently edit my own videos and have experience with editing, I’m looking for another creative mind who can help improve this process. Editing is often unpredictable, sometimes while putting a video together, you discover a moment that could be much funnier, a scene that needs better pacing, or a different way to tell the story. I want someone who has that “sixth sense” for editing. Someone who can look at clips and understand how to transform them into a cohesive, entertaining story. For context there will be script work done to follow a planned storyline. This is where editing comes in, being able to visually transform that script into something meaningful, through perfect transitions and choices of music, sounds and layered ambiences help a person feel. The role involves: * Helping shape raw footage into a compelling narrative * Finding comedic moments and improving them through editing choices * Suggesting changes when something could be stronger * Helping with pacing, structure, and viewer retention * Adding creative ideas that I may not have considered ## Important skills: * Understanding YouTube retention and storytelling * Strong comedic timing (knowing when to cut, when to hold a moment, and when to add a visual joke) * Ability to enhance personality rather than simply add effects * Creative use of: - Sound design - Purposeful zooms and camera movement for retention - Visual/audio gags - Memes (when appropriate not used often though) - On-screen graphics/text - Pacing changes - Emotional moments and build-up through sfx/music I’m not looking for someone who just throws random effects everywhere. I want someone who understands **why** an edit works and can help guide creative decisions. An individual who's truly passionate about creating videos. This quote is something i resonate with "You are as powerful as the way you make people feel" May be cheesy but honestly it's true. ## About me: I currently edit my own videos and have experience creating content in the Roblox/Bloxburg niche. So I’m looking for someone who can bring a fresh perspective and help improve the storytelling side. Knowledge of Roblox, especially Welcome to Bloxburg, would be a huge advantage because understanding the game, community, humour, and references will help. I will still be involved in the editing process and can provide direction, ideas, and feedback or assistance. This is not a role where you are expected to completely take over, though progress this together as a team bouncing off each others creativity. I’m looking for someone who can collaborate with me and become another creative force behind the channel. How this looks like will depend on your personal preference. From doing an edit then getting feedback from me and my creative vision. Or the other way around. I'm open to suggestion. ## The ideal person: * Has experience editing YouTube videos (especially entertainment/commentary content) * Naturally a comedic person and understands storytelling driven videos * Can suggest improvements instead of only following instructions * Understands Gen Z/Gen Alpha internet humor * Enjoys experimenting with creative ideas * Is comfortable collaborating and discussing ideas ## When applying, please include: 1. Examples of YouTube videos you have edited 2. A short explanation of your editing style 3. Any creators whose editing/storytelling you admire 4. Your experience with Roblox or gaming content (if any) 5. What you think makes a YouTube video entertaining beyond just the editing itself Wishing you all the best and looking forward to chatting with yall :))
