Worldwide
Market Research & Data Enrichment Specialist — U.S. Wedding Planner Database Project Overview I am building a B2B software platform designed for professional wedding planners. We are currently conducting customer discovery and are looking for a freelancer to build a structured research database of professional wedding planning businesses across the United States. The objective is to identify a diverse population of wedding planners that we can learn from — including solo planners, established independent planners, boutique firms, luxury/full-service planners, and technology-forward businesses. This is a market research and data enrichment project, not a sales or outreach engagement. Scope of Work Build a structured database of approximately 200–500 professional U.S. wedding planning businesses using publicly available information, licensed/authorized data sources, and research/enrichment tools that permit the intended use. The freelancer will be responsible for proposing an efficient research methodology and confirming that the tools, sources, APIs, databases, and methods they use permit the relevant access and data collection. 1. Build the Initial Business Database Identify professional wedding planning businesses across the United States. Initially over-index toward: New York City / New York New Jersey Connecticut Then include representation from major wedding markets such as California, Florida, Texas, Chicago, Washington DC / DMV, Boston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and other relevant U.S. markets. The final population should be geographically diverse rather than concentrated in one city. 2. Categorize Businesses Research and classify planners into the following customer segments: Newer / Solo Planner Established Independent Planner Boutique Wedding Planning Firm Luxury / High-End Full-Service Planner Technology-Forward Planner Businesses may qualify for multiple segments. 3. Enrich Business Information Where information can be appropriately and reliably obtained, capture: Business Information Company name Website City / state Founder / owner / lead planner Approximate team size Years in business Services offered Full-service / partial planning / coordination positioning Luxury positioning Destination wedding focus Multicultural / South Asian wedding specialization Business Indicators Publicly available ratings/review information Publicly listed starting price, where available Other useful indicators of business maturity or positioning Technology Publicly documented software/tools used by the business Evidence supporting the identified technology Source of the evidence Examples of technologies of interest include HoneyBook, Aisle Planner, Dubsado, Notion, Asana, Monday.com, Trello, Google Workspace, Timeline Genius, Planning Pod, Rock Paper Coin, and similar tools. Contact / Research Information Public business contact information, where appropriately available Company contact page Public business/social profiles Founder/professional profile, where appropriately available Do not guess or generate contact information. 4. Data Validation & Quality Accuracy is important. Information should be classified as: Evidence-Based — supported by a reliable, checkable source Estimated — reasonable inference, clearly identified as such Unknown — insufficient reliable information available Unknown is preferable to fabricated or unsupported information. The freelancer should also: Remove duplicate businesses Exclude businesses that are not primarily wedding planners Maintain traceable source information Flag ambiguous records for review Manually QA a sample of the final dataset 5. Customer Discovery Prioritization Assign each business a 1–10 Customer Discovery Priority Score based on how valuable the business may be to interview. Relevant factors may include: Business maturity Founder involvement Team size Number/complexity of weddings Full-service planning Operational complexity Technology usage Evidence of multiple systems/workflows Business activity Accessibility of the founder/team Fit with one of the target customer segments The purpose is to prioritize learning value, not simply identify the largest or most prestigious businesses. 6. Select a Top 50 Customer Discovery Sample From the master database, identify approximately 50 businesses representing a balanced customer-discovery sample. The Top 50 should include a mix of: Solo/newer planners Established independents Boutique firms Luxury/full-service planners Technology-forward planners Different geographies Different team sizes Different price points Different levels of operational complexity For each Top 50 business, include: Customer segment Discovery Priority Score Reason the business would be valuable to interview One specific customer-discovery hypothesis to test Research Methodology & Compliance The freelancer may use appropriate market-research, enrichment, AI, business-data, API, and automation tools to efficiently complete the work. All tools, sources and data-collection methods used for this project must comply with the applicable terms, permissions, access requirements and policies of the relevant websites, platforms, APIs, databases and service providers. Do not use methods that circumvent technical restrictions, access controls, authentication requirements, rate limits, or a source's applicable terms or policies. If a proposed data source does not permit the intended research/data collection method, use an alternative permitted source. The freelancer should briefly document the sources and methodology actually used. Deliverables The final engagement should include: Master database: approximately 200–500 qualified U.S. wedding planning businesses Top 50 customer-discovery list Customer segmentation/classification Business and contact enrichment where appropriately available Customer Discovery Priority Score Source/evidence documentation Data cleaning and deduplication QA of the final dataset Brief documentation of the research/enrichment workflow Instructions for repeating the methodology for another geography A short walkthrough of the final workflow would also be helpful so that the methodology can be reused in the future. Ideal Candidate Experience with: Market research B2B company research SMB/local-business research Data enrichment AI-assisted research Customer/ICP segmentation Data cleaning and deduplication Building structured prospect/research databases No-code/low-code research automation Experience with vertical SaaS, wedding/event businesses, or local-business datasets is a plus.
