Marvelous Designer Artist — Fit, Convert, & Export Existing Garments to Character Models
Worldwide
We’re a game/animation studio for a mythic pre-colonial Filipino project with a large cast of finished 3D characters and a complete library of Marvelous Designer garment patterns. We need a reliable MD artist for the mechanical work of fitting our existing garments onto our existing characters, optimizing them in EveryWear, and exporting clean FBX files for import into Character Creator 5. This is not a design role. All creative decisions are made. Patterns exist. Characters exist. Concept art and reference exist. Textures are handled separately by our team. We need skilled, consistent execution of a defined pipeline at volume — not interpretation, not original garment creation. If you’re a strong technical MD artist who’s comfortable doing focused, repeatable production work to a documented spec, this is steady ongoing work. What you’ll do, per character: 1. Import a provided character body (OBJ, A-pose, comes with fitting suit and arrangement points) as the MD avatar. 2. Load the appropriate provided garment pattern (.zprj) from our library. 3. Fit and simulate the garment to the specific character’s body — adjusting drape, fit, and arrangement so it sits correctly and reads naturally. Bodies vary significantly in build, so this requires actual fitting judgment, not just “load and done.” 4. Convert garment mesh to quads. 5. Run the garment through EveryWear: polygon optimization to provided targets, Auto Seal on any open edges, UV packing to provided specs. 6. Export as FBX per a provided settings checklist. 7. Save the MD project (.zprj) alongside the export. 8. Deliver via [shared drive / provided structure]. We provide a written step-by-step pipeline document with exact settings, plus a short screen-recording of the full process on one character. You follow it. You must have: • Demonstrable Marvelous Designer proficiency (portfolio or test piece required — show us garments you’ve fit to varied character bodies). • Solid understanding of garment fitting and simulation: standoff distance, fabric properties, pinning, layering, fold behavior. • Experience with EveryWear (or clear ability to learn it fast from our doc — tell us which). • Comfort with high-volume, spec-driven production work. This is repetitive by design. • Reliable communication and consistent turnaround. • Attention to detail: garments that clip, float, or sit wrong get sent back. Nice to have: • Character Creator 5 familiarity (helps you understand what the export feeds into, but we handle the CC5 side). • Experience fitting clothing to stylized (non-realistic-proportion) characters. • Background in game-asset or animation-pipeline clothing work. What we provide: • All character bodies (rigged, A-pose OBJ with fitting suit + arrangement points). • Complete garment pattern library (.zprj). • Concept art and reference per character. • Written pipeline doc + screen-recorded walkthrough. • EveryWear optimization and UV specs. • Texturing is handled by our team — not your concern. To apply: 1. Briefly describe your MD experience and link a portfolio showing garments fit to character bodies (varied builds especially valued). 2. Confirm your EveryWear experience level (used it / can learn it). 3. Tell us your preferred rate structure (hourly vs. per-character) and rough availability per week. 4. Include the word “abaca” at the top of your reply so we know you read this. We’ll start with a paid test: one or two characters through the full pipeline. If the quality and turnaround are right, this becomes ongoing work across a large cast with a steady pipeline.
