Mechanical Engineering Contractor Location: Remote Employment Type: Contractor Role Summary The Mechanical Engineering Contractor provides short-term technical support in the design, development, testing, and improvement of mechanical systems and products. This role works cross-functionally with engineering, product, and manufacturing teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions within defined timelines. Key Responsibilities • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems • Create and update CAD models, drawings, and technical documentation • Support prototyping, testing, and validation activities • Analyze product performance and recommend design improvements • Ensure designs meet safety, regulatory, and quality standards • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, production, suppliers) • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and provide root cause analysis • Support cost reduction and design-for-manufacturing initiatives • Provide progress updates and meet project deadlines • Document and execute of DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and EPOC (Engineering Proof of Checks) to ensure product quality, reliability, and risk mitigation Must-Have Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field • 3–8+ years of relevant mechanical design experience (depending on scope) • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo) • Experience with product development lifecycle (design → test → production) • Strong understanding of mechanical principles (thermodynamics, materials, stress analysis) • Ability to work independently in a contract/project-based setup • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Nice-to-Have • Experience in manufacturing environments (OEM, consumer products, industrial design) • Exposure to FEA/CFD analysis tools • Knowledge of design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA) • Experience working with suppliers or overseas manufacturing Deliverables / Success Metrics • Timely completion of design deliverables and project milestones • Accuracy and quality of engineering documentation • Successful prototype testing and iteration cycles • Reduction of defects, costs, or design inefficiencies
