Mechanical and Electrical Engineer Needed

Summary

We need a Refresh & Redesign of Existing Consumer Electronics Product (Non-Lethal Personal Defense Device) We have a fully working, previously prototyped consumer electronics product. The design has been complete and functional for about two years but has been sitting idle, and we're ready to bring it forward for production. We're looking for an experienced hardware/embedded engineer (or small team) to take it through the next stage. Scope of work: - Review and refresh the existing bill of materials (BOM), check part availability/lifecycle status, find modern equivalents for any obsolete or hard-to-source components, and identify cost-reduction opportunities. -Redesign the enclosure/mechanical assembly to be optimized for 3D printing as the production method, replacing the original injection-molding-oriented design. This includes adjusting wall thicknesses, tolerances, fastening methods, and part-splitting for reliable, repeatable print production at moderate volume. -Replace the current device-programming method. Today, the device broadcasts its own Wi-Fi network and is configured through a captive-portal web page hosted on the device. We want this replaced with a standalone downloadable app (a link on our website) that connects to the device (Wi-Fi or BLE, open to your recommendation) and handles programming directly. The configuration itself is simple (fewer than a dozen settings total) so this is a modest-scope app, not a full platform build. What we can provide once we're talking: existing BOM, CAD/mechanical files, PCB schematics/firmware, and the current web-app source code. What we're looking for: someone comfortable working end-to-end across mechanical, electrical, and firmware/app domains, or a small team that covers those bases together. Please share relevant past projects (especially anything involving 3D-printed enclosures for electronics, or BLE/Wi-Fi companion apps for a hardware product). This is an NDA-covered project; happy to share full technical details after a signed NDA.
