Summary

We're Tiny Brick Oven, a Baltimore pizzeria launching a portable pizza oven. The oven body is designed; we need an experienced mechanical engineer to design the door and take it through to fabrication-ready drawings. What the door needs to do Seal the cooking chamber opening of approximately 14 inches by 6 inches inches during cooking Withstand sustained operating temperatures of [~900°F / 480°C] on the interior face while the handle stays safe to touch, and be able to adjust the opening from closed, to halfway open to fully open) [Swing on a hinge / lift off / slide] — open with one hand, mid-cook, wearing an oven glove Hold up to repeated heating and cooling cycles without warping or losing its seal Fit the look of the oven (we'll send renders and CAD of the body) Deliverables Concept options (2–3 sketches or rough models) with your recommendation and reasoning Full 3D CAD model of the door assembly (SolidWorks or Fusion 360 preferred, STEP file required) Production drawings with tolerances, suitable for a sheet metal fabricator to quote from Bill of materials with specified materials, gauges, hardware, and any off-the-shelf parts (hinges, gaskets, handles) with sources Brief DFM notes: how it should be cut, formed, and assembled, and anything the fabricator needs to watch What we'll provide CAD of the oven body and the door opening Target unit cost and production quantity for the first run Our fabrication method [laser cut + brake formed steel, etc.] Fast answers — we're hands-on and will turn feedback around within a day You're a good fit if you Have designed sheet metal parts that were actually manufactured (please link to examples, not just renders) Understand thermal expansion, high-temperature materials, and gasket/seal selection Have worked on ovens, grills, appliances, stoves, or similar heat-facing products (a big plus, not required) Can explain design tradeoffs clearly in plain English paid in milestones: concept → CAD → final drawings and BOM. We'd like final deliverables within 3 weeks. To apply Start your proposal with one sentence about a metal part you designed that went into production and one thing that went wrong or surprised you when it was built. Skip generic cover letters — we're reading for real fabrication experience.
