Mechanical engineer for product development — ongoing project-based work
Worldwide
We build physical products from concept to production. We need a mechanical engineer who is exceptionally strong in sheet metal and frame design, precise in SolidWorks, understands how parts are actually fabricated, and can deliver complete, production-ready work without constant direction. A portfolio showcasing previous work on structural frames, cabinets, or enclosures is highly desirable for this role. Core Skills Required SolidWorks Mastery: Advanced level required, specifically with deep expertise in the Sheet Metal and Weldments/Structural Member modules. Enclosure & Frame Design: Proven ability to design rigid, cost-effective structural frames and precision sheet metal enclosures. Manufacturing Knowledge: Detailed part design optimized for laser cutting, CNC bending/forming, welding, and PEM hardware insertion. GD&T & Tolerance Analysis: Application of ASME Y14.5 standards, with a focus on sheet metal bend allowances, k-factors, and tolerance stack-ups for large assemblies. Mechanism & Hardware Integration: Experience integrating hinges, latches, gaskets (for IP/environmental sealing), slides, and heavy-duty fastening systems. Production-Ready Documentation: Complete engineering drawings, flat patterns, welding schematics, and comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOM) development. Material & Finish Selection: Strong understanding of steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and appropriate finishes (powder coating, plating, anodizing) for durability and environment. Nice to Have Vending Machine Experience: Direct experience designing sheet metal structures for vending machines, kiosks, or automated retail systems is a huge plus. Access Control & Security: Familiarity with designing secure enclosures (anti-vandalism, locking mechanisms, reinforced seams). Thermal & Component Integration: Experience designing brackets, mounts, and ventilation for internal electronics, power supplies, or refrigeration units. Hands-on Prototyping: Experience working directly with fabricators or assembly techs to troubleshoot the first build. To Apply: Work is per project with a clear scope defined upfront. Please send a short intro on your background and two or three SolidWorks examples/portfolio pieces showcasing your best sheet metal and frame/enclosure work.
