Media Outreach & PR Specialist — Earned Editorial Coverage for Collectibles and Licensing Battling Blades is an established ecommerce company selling swords, knives, axes, spears and related collectibles. We are expanding our custom-product, artist-collaboration, licensed-product and new sword programs, with several meaningful announcements planned. The core of this role is earning legitimate editorial coverage through direct journalist outreach—not bulk wire distribution, backlink packages or syndication volume. If your standard approach is to distribute a release to hundreds of sites and provide a placement report, this is not the right project. Scope The selected freelancer will: Evaluate each announcement and advise whether it warrants media outreach, wire distribution or a newsroom-only post Recommend the strongest news angle Write and revise professional press releases and newsroom announcements Write the canonical version for BattlingBlades.com; we handle on-site SEO and schema Build targeted media lists of journalists and publications that cover the relevant subject Write tailored journalist pitches Conduct direct outreach and appropriate follow-up Pursue relevant earned editorial coverage Provide links to resulting coverage Report earned editorial coverage and syndicated placements separately Wire distribution is optional and secondary. If recommended, it must be approved in advance and reported separately from earned coverage. Distribution costs should also be quoted separately and transparently. Potential Announcements Expansion of our made-to-order custom sword program An official entertainment or intellectual-property licensing partnership A fantasy artist collaboration The launch of an officially licensed product collection A major new sword or product collection New longsword, gladius, Viking sword, katana or other releases with a clear historical, technical or consumer-interest angle Historically researched, unusually designed or technically differentiated sword releases Routine individual product launches may require only a strong newsroom announcement. Larger collections, licensed products and distinctive releases may justify direct media outreach. What Success Looks Like Success will be judged by: Accurate judgment about which announcements are genuinely newsworthy The quality and relevance of the media targets The strength of the positioning and pitches Genuine direct outreach to appropriate journalists Relevant editorial pickup Clear reporting that distinguishes earned coverage from syndication Outlet relevance and quality matter far more than the total number of placements. Engagement This is for one announcement initially, with strong potential for additional projects involving licensed products, artist collaborations, custom products and new sword launches. Preferred Experience Journalist outreach and media relations Ecommerce or consumer products Entertainment or intellectual-property licensing Gaming, fantasy, history, comics or collectibles Product-launch PR Press-release and newsroom writing Direct media-outreach experience is the highest priority.
