Summary

Diasporalia is a mobile marketplace and community app in development to serve diaspora communities. We need native or near-native translators to review existing auto-translated app text, correct it, and make sure the language feels natural, respectful, and clear inside a mobile app interface. Languages Needed: - Spanish (es) - looking - German (de) - looking - French (fr) - hired, not looking any longer - Arabic (ar) - hired, not looking any longer We may hire one freelancer per language or one qualified freelancer for multiple languages. What You Will Receive - An Excel translation workbook for your assigned language with English source text, current translation, app section, key, context, and status. - A dated translator guide workbook explaining how to review the app, preserve placeholders, report issues, and submit corrections. - Access to the test version of the Diasporalia mobile app so you can check each translation in real app context. - Tester access instructions after you provide the required tester email: a Gmail address for Android testers, or any valid email address for iOS testers. Scope of Work - Review every translated string in the provided workbook for your assigned language. The workbook contains 1,820 rows of English strings or phrases, with translations in French, depending on your assignment. The content includes a mix of single words, short phrases, longer phrases, and complete sentences. For example, row 22 contains “Confirm,” while row 23 contains “Please confirm you want to submit this listing.” Each entry has a corresponding machine-generated translation that must be reviewed. If the translation is incorrect or does not accurately reflect the app context, provide the corrected version in a separate column. - Download and use the test version of the app during the review. Do not rely only on the spreadsheet; use the app to understand where labels, buttons, forms, empty states, and warnings appear. - Provide the email address needed for test-app access before starting: Gmail is required for Android test access, while any valid email address can be used for iOS test access. - Correct mistranslations, awkward machine translation, grammar, tone, punctuation, and culturally inappropriate wording. - Keep placeholders exactly as provided, such as (count), (name), and (city). - Keep product names, brand names, email addresses, URLs, file names, and technical identifiers unchanged unless the guide says otherwise. - Check short UI labels for mobile fit. Use concise wording where buttons, tabs, filters, and headers need to remain compact. - Record questions, uncertain translations, and app context issues in the guide workbook issue log. Quality Bar - The final translation should sound like it was written by a fluent product writer, not by machine translation. - Use consistent vocabulary for recurring app terms such as listing, service, category, featured, message, favorite, profile, verification, and report. - Use respectful, community-appropriate wording for family, childcare, housing, professional services, events, safety, and account settings. Deliverables - Completed translation workbook for the assigned language. - Completed issue log or notes sheet listing any unclear source text, missing context, legal concerns, or UI length concerns. - A short summary of what was changed and any recurring terminology choices. Ideal Freelancer - Native or professional fluency in the target language and strong English comprehension. - Experience translating apps, websites, SaaS products, marketplaces, community platforms, or customer-facing product copy. - Comfort working in Excel and following detailed instructions. - Careful with placeholders, formatting, tone, and consistency. Application Questions - Which language or languages can you review professionally? - Are you a native speaker of the target language? If not, describe your fluency level and localization experience. - Have you reviewed machine-translated app or website text before? - Which device will you use for testing: Android or iOS? If Android, can you provide a Gmail address for test access? If iOS, can you provide any email address for test access? - Are you comfortable downloading the test version of the app and checking the translations inside the app for context before finalizing corrections? - What is your estimated turnaround time for one language workbook? - Please share one short example of app or website translation/localization work, if available. Suggested Upwork Settings - Project type: fixed price per language IMPORTANT: - You will need to use the app, and we will provide you with access. However, it is essential that every translation in the workbook is tested directly within the app. For example, if the workbook contains let us say French translation: "Veuillez confirmer que vous souhaitez soumettre cette annonce." You should first verify that this translation accurately reflects the English source: "Please confirm you want to submit this listing." If this is not correct, you will need to put the correct translation on a separate column in the workbook. Once you confirm accuracy, locate the feature in the app where this text appears and check that the translation makes sense in context and correctly conveys the intended meaning. - Milestone 1: full workbook correction and issue log. - Milestone 2: one revision pass after owner review.
