3D Modelling & Structural FEA Analysis for Large Organic Stainless-Steel Structure

Summary

I am developing a large-scale fabricated stainless steel structure with an organic woven geometry. The base model has already been created in Rhino as a surface model. I am looking for an experienced freelancer (or team) to assist with completing the design for fabrication and performing structural engineering analysis. You may apply for one segment or both, depending on your expertise. To make the scope clear from the outset, I have attached a PDF containing annotated screenshots of the Rhino model. The document highlights the required design modifications, reinforcement areas, and provides overall views of the structure and weave geometry. Please review the attachment before submitting your proposal, as it should answer most questions regarding the required work. Segment 1 – 3D Design & Fabrication Modelling The existing Rhino model consists of surfaces and needs to be converted into a fabrication-ready solid model. Scope of Work 1. Convert Surface Model to Solid - Import the existing Rhino model. - Convert the entire surface model into a solid body which will make it workable for analysis. - Apply a uniform wall thickness of 3 mm throughout the structure. - Preserve the existing organic weave geometry as accurately as possible. 2. Local Thickness Modifications After the solid model has been created, selectively modify specific regions: - Increase the base plate thickness from 3 mm to 8 mm. - Add an additional 3 mm stainless steel reinforcement plate to selected bottom patterned regions. - Add another 3 mm reinforcement sheet to the lower floating section of the structure to improve stiffness and fabrication strength. The reinforcement locations have already been identified and will be clearly indicated within the annotated PDF. The final model should be suitable for fabrication and subsequent engineering analysis. Segment 2 – Structural Engineering / FEA Analysis Once the fabrication model has been completed, I require a comprehensive structural assessment of the design. The objective is not simply to analyse the existing model and report the results. I require the structure to be assessed against the specified loading conditions, and where necessary, the design should be refined to achieve a structurally acceptable solution. Required Scope I would require: - Review the completed model for structural performance. - Define appropriate material properties, loading conditions and boundary conditions. - Perform: -- Static Structural Analysis -- Von Mises Stress Analysis -- Total Deformation Analysis -- Linear Buckling Analysis -- Wind Load Analysis -- Selective Live load placement and Analysis Identify any regions that exceed acceptable stress, deformation or stability limits. Recommend and implement practical design modifications where necessary (for example, local reinforcement, thickness changes or other structural improvements) while preserving the original design intent as much as possible. Re-run the analysis following each design iteration until the structure satisfies acceptable engineering criteria under the specified loading conditions and then finalize the report. Final Deliverables The final submission should include: - Updated CAD model (if modifications were required). - Complete FEA setup. - Material properties. - Load cases and assumptions. - Boundary conditions. - Stress contour plots. - Deformation plots. - Buckling analysis results. - Wind load analysis results. A concise engineering report demonstrating that the final design meets acceptable structural performance requirements, including a summary of any design changes made during the optimisation process. Please note that the engineering report should reflect the final validated design, not simply the initial analysis. If the initial design does not meet the required criteria, I expect the necessary engineering modifications to be made before issuing the final report. Please let me know if you have any questions or clarifications so that I can help.
