Native Isi-xhosa Speaker Annotator — Machine Translation

We are researchers at Mila (Quebec AI Institute) working on an AI safety project that studies how large language models behave when prompted in African languages. We need a native Yoruba speaker to help us evaluate and improve machine-translated AI safety prompts. What you will do: You will be shown English sentences alongside their Isi-Xhosa machine translations. For each sentence, your job is to: Check whether the translation correctly captures the meaning of the English source List any words or phrases that are mistranslated, missing, added, or left in English Write your own corrected Hausa translation, replacing any place names, people, or organizations with local equivalents familiar to Isi-Xhosa -speaking communities Project details: 552 sentences total Each sentence takes approximately 2–5 minutes Estimated total time: 20–40 hours All work is done through a simple online annotation platform, no technical skills required A short 10-task pilot will be completed first before the main work begins Requirements: Native or near-native Isi-Xhosa speaker Strong written Isi-Xhosa — you must be comfortable writing naturally in the language Reliable internet connection and availability to communicate via messages Attention to detail and consistency across tasks Nice to have: Background in linguistics, translation, or a related field Familiarity with AI or technology topics This is a remote, flexible role.
