# Vector Artist Needed to Recreate & Refine Existing Sprite Sheets I am looking for an experienced vector illustrator / vector artist to professionally recreate a collection of existing raster PNG sprite sheets as clean, detailed, production-ready vector artwork. This is not a basic automatic vector-tracing project. The existing artwork will be supplied as the visual reference. I need an artist who can manually redraw, refine, repair, and optimize the artwork while preserving the original character designs, colors, themes, poses/forms, visual effects, and overall appearance. The finished artwork will be used commercially in an application across iPhone, Apple Watch, tablets, televisions, and other display sizes, so both large-scale quality and small-size readability are important. ## Initial Paid Test I would like to begin with 2–3 complete sprite sheets as a paid test. The price for the initial test and continuing work will be agreed upon with the selected artist before work begins. When applying, please provide: * Your proposed price per sprite sheet * Your proposed price for the initial 2–3 sheet test * Your proposed price for a five-sheet production batch * Any volume pricing you would offer for approximately 30 or more sheets * Whether reasonable corrections required to satisfy the agreed specifications are included If the initial test meets the required artistic and technical standards, I currently anticipate approximately 27–28 additional sprite sheets, with the possibility of substantially more work in the future. I am interested in finding an artist who may be able to work with me on this project long-term. ## Continuing Five-Sheet Batches After the initial test is approved, continuing work will normally be organized into batches of five sprite sheets. A fixed price for each five-sheet batch will be agreed upon before continuing work begins, and that same batch price will apply to all subsequent five-sheet batches unless both parties mutually agree in writing to change the rate. The intended workflow is: 1. A five-sheet batch is authorized and funded. 2. The artist completes all five sheets according to the agreed project requirements. 3. The completed batch is submitted for review. 4. I review the artwork against the agreed visual, technical, structural, and delivery requirements. 5. If corrections are reasonably necessary for the work to meet those requirements, I will identify the requested corrections. 6. The artist completes those corrections and resubmits the affected work. 7. Once all five sheets satisfy the agreed requirements, the batch is approved and payment is released. 8. Only after that batch is approved will the next five-sheet batch be authorized and funded. A batch is not considered complete simply because files have been submitted. Approval occurs after the delivered work has been reviewed and confirmed to satisfy the agreed project requirements. Reasonable corrections necessary to bring the artwork into compliance with the original specifications are considered part of completing that batch. Requests that materially redesign the supplied artwork or introduce requirements outside the original agreed scope may be treated as additional work if both parties agree. Only the currently authorized batch should be considered active work. Completion of one batch does not automatically authorize the next batch. The total number of sheets is currently an estimate and may ultimately be higher or lower depending on project needs. This structure is intended to protect both sides: the artist receives regular payment for successfully completed work, while I can verify the quality and technical suitability of each batch before authorizing additional work. # Artwork Objective The supplied raster artwork needs to be recreated as genuine editable vector artwork. I am NOT looking for someone to simply: * Place the original PNG inside an SVG * Embed or mask the source raster image * Automatically trace the PNG and submit the raw traced result * Convert every source pixel into thousands of unnecessary vector objects The goal is a professionally reconstructed vector version of the artwork. The finished vector artwork should preserve the existing: * Character/glyph designs * Poses and forms * Colors * Themes * Silhouettes * Visual identity * Glow and lighting style * Important artistic details * Overall appearance while professionally correcting anything that is: * Incomplete * Pixelated * Jagged * Malformed * Uneven * Unclear * Accidentally transparent * Poorly defined in the raster source The artist may use reasonable artistic judgment to repair unclear areas while remaining faithful to the established design. # Sprite-Sheet Structure Each sheet contains 72 glyph cells arranged as: * 8 columns * 9 rows * One character-label bar above every row * 72 total cells, including the final fallback cell The vector master should use an artboard/viewBox proportional to: 1600 × 2160 units At that scale: * Each artwork cell: 200 × 200 units * Each label bar: 40 units high * Each complete row: 240 units high * Complete sheet: 1600 × 2160 units * Minimum safe margin: 12 units inside every edge of each artwork cell No artwork, glow, shadow, sparkle, particle, or other visual effect may enter another character's cell. Each glyph should be optically centered within its cell. The supplied character order must be preserved exactly. ## Apple Watch Export The Watch version uses the same proportions: * Complete sheet: 600 × 810 pixels * Artwork cell: 75 × 75 pixels * Label bar: 15 pixels * Approximate safe margin: 5 pixels The vector master may be created at any convenient working resolution as long as its: * Aspect ratio * Grid geometry * Cell placement * Spacing * Character order remain exact. # Vector Construction Requirements Artwork should be manually recreated and refined using clean, intentional vector paths. Please: * Use smooth Bézier curves * Use as few anchor points as reasonably necessary * Correct jagged raster edges * Correct pixelated contours * Repair malformed or uneven curves * Reconstruct missing or incomplete artwork * Repair details that merge together or become unclear * Preserve meaningful texture * Preserve shading * Preserve facial details where applicable * Preserve clothing details where applicable * Preserve symbols and magical/energy effects * Preserve other important theme-specific details * Keep related components visually separated * Make important details strong enough to survive the 75 × 75 Watch export * Use optical corrections where necessary instead of relying only on mathematical scaling * Preserve intentional holes, openings, and negative space * Repair accidental holes, cutouts, missing sections, and transparency defects * Keep every glyph visually distinct from every other glyph on the sheet A vector file can technically scale indefinitely, but extremely small details do not automatically remain readable when rasterized small. If a micro-detail cannot survive at 75 × 75 pixels, it should be intelligently simplified, strengthened, or adjusted rather than becoming visual noise. # Glow, Lighting & Small-Size Rendering Many sheets contain effects such as: * Glow * Bloom * Highlights * Sparkles * Energy effects * Luminous lines * Gradients * Shading These effects should be preserved where they contribute to the design. The goal is not to flatten the artwork or remove its aesthetic. However, the effects must be constructed efficiently and scale cleanly. When several translucent lines or glow layers are compressed into a small raster image, they can combine into overly bright, blurry, muddy, or white areas. Please avoid: * Large stacks of overlapping glow paths * Many nearly identical duplicate paths * Excessive blur layers * Extremely thin translucent lines that collapse together * Glow that overwhelms the underlying design * Effects that create unintended white hotspots after downsizing Please maintain enough separation between luminous elements so the design stays readable. Where appropriate, use a controlled outer glow rather than many accumulated copies of the same effect. The primary silhouette and important interior details should remain readable even without relying entirely on glow. The 75 × 75 Watch version should not unexpectedly gain: * Excessive shine * White hotspots * Muddy colors * Blurred areas * Merged details * Color pooling because multiple vector effects collapsed into the same pixels. # File Size & Vector Efficiency The finished vector files should remain reasonably efficient and editable. Please avoid: * Automatic image tracing as the final artwork * Thousands of unnecessary anchor points * Embedded source PNGs * Excessive clipping masks * Excessive compound masks * Deeply nested unnecessary groups * Dozens of stacked blur/glow effects * Excessive mesh gradients when simpler gradients can achieve the same result * Hidden or unused objects * Duplicate artwork * Unused paths or definitions * Preserving raster noise as vector shapes * Creating separate vector paths for every tiny raster color variation Prefer: * Clean shapes * Efficient gradients * Cel shading * Controlled highlights * Purposeful glow/effects * Organized groups and layers The goal is polished artwork with manageable vector complexity, not a literal vector representation of every pixel in the source PNG. Label text should be converted to vector outlines in the final delivery so font availability cannot alter the layout. # Layer & Group Organization Every glyph must remain individually editable. Each glyph should be placed inside its own clearly named group or layer using the character it represents. For example: A B C D ... 0 1 2 ? ! etc. Effects belonging to a glyph should remain grouped with that glyph. This is important because individual glyphs may later need to be: * Corrected * Recolored * Modified * Animated * Exported separately * Rearranged into another sprite sheet # Deliverables for Each Sheet For every completed sheet, please provide: 1. Editable vector master, preferably SVG 2. Original editable working file used to create it, such as Adobe Illustrator (.AI) or Affinity Designer 3. Transparent iPhone PNG export at 1600 × 2160 4. Transparent Watch PNG export at 600 × 810 5. Additional larger PNG exports when requested for television/display testing 6. Final sheet with the required grid and character-label structure preserved exactly 7. Clearly named editable groups/layers for every glyph 8. No embedded raster artwork unless specifically disclosed and approved beforehand All final vector files must remain genuinely editable. # Quality & Approval Standards Completed sheets will be reviewed for: * Correct 8 × 9 layout * Correct character order * Correct sheet proportions * Correct cell dimensions * Correct label-bar dimensions * Correct safe margins * All 72 cells properly populated * Every glyph visually distinct * No artwork bleeding into neighboring cells * No glow/effects bleeding into neighboring cells * No missing artwork * No clipped artwork * No incomplete artwork * No accidental transparency * No obvious raster-trace artifacts * No unnecessary pixelation or jagged contours * Smooth, intentional vector construction * Good appearance on iPhone * Good appearance on Apple Watch * Good appearance on tablets * Good appearance when significantly enlarged for television/display use * No excessive glow accumulation after downsizing * No unintended white hotspots * No muddy colors * No important details merging together * Appropriate restoration/touchup of unclear source details * Consistent colors and shading * Reasonable SVG complexity and file size * Reasonable exported PNG file sizes * No embedded-PNG shortcuts * No excessive path complexity * No unnecessary effects or masks * Accurate preservation of the supplied design, theme, and visual identity Representative glyphs should be tested at approximately: * 75 × 75 pixels * 200 × 200 pixels * Significantly enlarged display/television sizes before each sheet is submitted. # Commercial Rights & Originality The finished artwork will be used in commercial software and related products. I therefore require: * Full editable source files * Full commercial-use rights to the completed paid artwork * The ability to modify it * The ability to resize it * The ability to recolor it * The ability to animate it * The ability to reproduce and distribute it * The ability to create derivative works * The ability to incorporate it into commercial applications and other products * The ability to transfer the artwork along with the application, product, intellectual property, or business in the future Please do not incorporate: * Unlicensed third-party artwork * Copyrighted material belonging to others * Incompatible stock assets * Restricted fonts * Third-party intellectual property * AI-generated replacement artwork without discussing it with me and receiving approval first. The preferred workflow is to use the artwork I supply as the design reference and manually reconstruct and refine it into original, professional vector artwork. # Confidentiality Some supplied artwork may be associated with unreleased applications, features, or content. Source sheets, unreleased artwork, project files, and other non-public materials should not be: * Resold * Redistributed * Uploaded as stock artwork * Shared with other clients * Used to create competing asset packs * Published publicly * Posted to social media * Added to a public portfolio without prior permission. # Ideal Artist You may be a strong fit if you: * Have professional experience manually recreating raster artwork as vectors * Are skilled with Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer, or equivalent professional vector software * Understand clean Bézier path construction * Understand small-size readability * Can preserve detailed glow, gradients, shading, and luminous effects without creating unnecessarily heavy files * Have experience with sprite sheets, game assets, glyphs, symbols, icons, or character artwork * Pay close attention to alignment and consistency * Can follow exact technical specifications * Are comfortable making tasteful artistic corrections to imperfect source artwork * Are interested in potentially ongoing work When applying, please include examples of raster-to-vector artwork you manually recreated, especially work involving: * Characters * Detailed symbols * Game assets * Glyphs * Icons * Fantasy/sci-fi artwork * Glowing or luminous artwork If possible, also briefly describe: * Your normal vector recreation process * Which software you use * Your proposed pricing for the initial test * Your proposed fixed price for a five-sheet production batch * Any volume pricing you would offer for approximately 30 or more sheets The project will begin with a small paid test before proceeding into the continuing five-sheet production batches.
