Summary

SUMMARY: A mid-sized service company using NetSuite as its core ERP is seeking help designing and implementing various improvements. You do not need to cover all of the areas below, but strength in more than one is required. Key Areas of Focus (in priority order): 1. NetSuite workflow design and implementation – e.g., build and refine workflows (vendor bill approvals, expense approvals); transition existing external processes into NetSuite-native functionality (e.g., move customer communications from an external mailbox to NetSuite's native communication system). 2. System behavior and data integrity troubleshooting – Investigate and resolve inconsistencies (as identified by an existing team) in system behavior; e.g. NetSuite's native intercompany elimination functionality works as expected in one month but does not work in the next month despite seemingly similar inputs. 3. Designing and implementing NetSuite advanced reporting solutions – develop custom reporting solutions beyond the standard NetSuite report inventory (e.g., deferred revenue reporting at the sales order level, including detailed statistics such as start/end dates, total invoiced, total revenue recognized, order value net of credits/returns, etc.). 4. Integrations and platform support – Assist in the implementation and troubleshooting of NetSuite-native tools (e.g., NetSuite Planning and Budgeting (NSPB), SuiteBilling, etc.) and related integrations. SKILLS: a. SuiteScript experience would be helpful but is not mandatory—existing challenges are believed to be solvable without scripting. b. Expert-level, hands-on NetSuite expertise (settings, workflows, records, forms, customizations, and system behavior). Must have prior relevant hands-on NetSuite experience—being an advanced NetSuite user (an efficient consumer of a pre-configured system without having to design or modify it), even when combined with hands-on experience with other ERPs, would not be sufficient. c. Proven ability to diagnose non-obvious system issues. d. Ability to design practical solutions within (and sometimes beyond) standard functionality. e. Demonstrates a creative and flexible approach to problem-solving, particularly when standard NetSuite functionality is insufficient. Able to leverage existing system features in non-traditional ways—for example, repurposing unused fields or configurations to meet business requirements when a direct solution is not available. f. English proficiency at least at the Professional Working Proficiency level in written communication. g. General understanding of SuiteBilling and Advanced Revenue Management (ARM) NetSuite features would be helpful but is not mandatory. Sample challenges include, but are not limited to: i. Create and configure custom fields with provided logic (including rules governing interaction with other fields). ii. Ensure invoices inherit attributes from the originating sales orders. iii. Build and optimize approval workflows. iv. Customize an invoice form to meet customer-specific requirements. v. Trace data attributes across transaction chains (e.g., identify the first document where an attribute originated). vi. Research the root cause of NetSuite behavior that seemingly defies common-sense expectations. vii. Resolve A/R aging anomalies (e.g., numerous partially offsetting "- No Customer/Project -" balances). TIMELINE AND COMMITMENT: The initial project is expected to last 3-6 months. Depending on the development of a positive working relationship with the contractor, it could evolve into a permanent NetSuite Improvement Expert role. There are no time-specific milestones to meet, but the expectation is that the project will progress at a moderate to fast pace. There are no minimum daily or weekly hour requirements; however, the contractor should be willing to commit 80 or more hours over any four-week period (e.g., 10-10-0-60 or 20-20-20-20).
