Network Engineer to Build a Secure Self-Hosted Home VPN (Residential Exit IP)
Worldwide
Overview I'm looking for an experienced network engineer to build a private, self-hosted VPN that routes all of my traffic through my own home internet connection while I travel. Wherever I am (Florida, Spain, anywhere), my devices should appear to be sitting at home on my residential connection, with my public IP always showing as my actual home ISP address. The key point: the exit needs to be my real home residential line (my home internet is Cox), not a datacenter or a commercial VPN endpoint. Because it's a genuine residential connection, it should look exactly like I'm browsing from my couch at home, with no VPN or proxy flags. What I need built All my traffic exits through my home residential connection, so my public IP is always my home ISP Rock-solid stability, with automatic reconnect if the tunnel ever drops A hard kill switch so nothing leaks my real location or local IP if the connection fails No DNS, WebRTC, or IPv6 leaks under any condition Works cleanly on my laptop and phone, without me having to plug into a physical router the way I used to Simple for me to turn on and off day to day Background Years ago I had a version of this built using two physical routers, one kept at my home and one I traveled with, connected over Ethernet to pull my home IP. It worked but it was clunky, and I assume the technology has moved on. I want the current best-practice approach (self-hosted WireGuard, a home gateway or small always-on device acting as an exit node, or whatever you recommend as the cleanest, most reliable option today). Please address in your proposal Your recommended architecture (home device, software, and how you'd handle real-world issues like CGNAT or a changing home IP) Whether I need any specific hardware, and if so what Exactly how you guarantee zero leaks and reliable automatic failover Roughly how long the build takes Experience required I only want to work with someone who has genuinely done this before. Please include specifics, references, or evidence of similar builds you've delivered. This matters to me, and I need it done properly the first time. Timeline I'm ready to start immediately and want to move quickly with the right person. If this is squarely in your wheelhouse, tell me how you'd approach it and let's get going. I am open to an hourly arrangement or fixed budget arrangement.
