We are seeking a skilled Mechanical CAD Drafter to create detailed shop drawings for marine fender systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in marine fender design and be proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD and SolidWorks. This is an ongoing role with a long-term engagement. ---- Ongoing Mechanical CAD Drafter for Marine Fender Shop Drawings Fendguard is an established Canadian marine and industrial products company. We are looking for a dependable freelance mechanical CAD drafter for an ongoing working relationship. The initial work will involve preparing clear, professional shop drawings for marine fenders and associated mounting hardware. Most drawings will be two-dimensional and will be prepared from manufacturer drawings, customer information, marked-up PDFs, sketches, photographs and existing CAD files. Typical Work * Prepare 2D marine-fender shop drawings * Create plan, elevation, side and sectional views * Add dimensions, mounting details and hardware schedules * Prepare chain, shackle, bolt, anchor and fender-panel details * Convert marked-up PDFs or sketches into editable CAD drawings * Apply Fendguard’s title block and branding * Revise drawings following customer comments * Maintain revision tables and drawing-number controls * Deliver editable DWG files and finished PDFs * Develop reusable drawing templates and CAD blocks Required Experience * Strong AutoCAD 2D drafting ability * Mechanical, industrial or fabrication shop-drawing experience * Ability to work accurately from incomplete source materials * Ability to identify missing or contradictory dimensions * Excellent dimensional and drawing discipline * Clear written English * Dependable communication and turnaround * Willingness to support Fendguard on an ongoing basis Experience with marine equipment, docks, fenders, structural steel, industrial hardware, vessels or mechanical fabrication would be particularly useful. Important Working Principle The drafter will document approved arrangements and specifications. The drafter must not invent engineering details or make unapproved technical assumptions. Missing information must be clearly identified for Fendguard’s review. Initial Assignment Shortlisted candidates will receive the same paid test assignment. It will involve preparing one simple branded shop drawing from supplied reference materials and marked-up instructions. Please provide: 1. Two or three examples of mechanical, fabrication or shop drawings you personally prepared 2. The CAD software and version you use 3. Your hourly rate 4. Your normal turnaround for a simple drawing and a revision 5. Your current weekly availability 6. Confirmation that Fendguard will own all DWG files, templates and reusable drawing blocks 7.
