Paid Expert Interview: Firmware Engineers and Embedded System Engineers
Worldwide
We are conducting market research on firmware and embedded systems engineering workflows, tooling, testing, and deployment practices across complex hardware products and infrastructure. This is a paid expert interview. No coding or implementation work is required. We are looking to speak with experienced firmware and embedded systems engineers who can share practical, real-world perspectives on how embedded software is developed, tested, validated, deployed, debugged, and maintained in production environments. ## Ideal Background We are especially interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: * Data center and server platforms: BMC, BIOS/UEFI, OpenBMC, Redfish, IPMI, PLDM, SPDM, secure boot, attestation, firmware update workflows * Embedded Linux, RTOS, bare-metal systems, device drivers, board support packages (BSPs), bootloaders * GPU, NIC, DPU, SSD, storage controller, networking, or accelerator firmware * Automotive embedded systems: ECU, BMS, ADAS, infotainment, AUTOSAR, safety-critical software * Medical devices and regulated embedded systems * Robotics, industrial automation, PLCs, motor control, sensors, edge devices, and real-time control systems * Consumer electronics, IoT devices, telecommunications equipment, aerospace, defense, or networking hardware * Firmware validation, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, board bring-up, post-silicon validation, manufacturing test, reliability testing, or fleet deployment Senior engineers, staff engineers, tech leads, validation engineers, systems engineers, engineering managers, architects, and individuals who work closely with firmware or embedded software teams are all welcome. ## What We Want to Learn The interview will focus on practical topics such as: * What does the firmware or embedded software development lifecycle look like in your domain? * What are the most painful parts of development, testing, validation, integration, and release? * How are bugs typically discovered, reproduced, and debugged? * What tools are commonly used for simulation, emulation, HIL testing, board farms, CI/CD, flashing, logging, tracing, and test automation? * How do teams manage hardware/software integration and validation? * Where do current tools and workflows break down? * How are software and firmware updates deployed, monitored, rolled back, and maintained in production? * What parts of the workflow remain manual, slow, risky, or under-automated? * What types of new tools would engineers or organizations actually pay for? ## Format * 45–60 minute video call * Paid interview * No preparation required * No confidential or proprietary information needed * We are only interested in general workflow insights, tooling gaps, pain points, and market perspectives ## Requirements Please apply only if you have hands-on experience developing, validating, deploying, or maintaining firmware or embedded software in production hardware environments. In your application, please briefly answer: 1. What industry or domain have you worked in? 2. What types of firmware, embedded software, or systems have you worked on? 3. How many years of firmware or embedded systems experience do you have?
