Summary

SaunaSpace is looking for an experienced part-time Shopify developer to help us clean up, optimize, and continue building our ecommerce site. We have a Shopify site that was recently built by an agency, but the implementation left us with a number of issues: slow load times, backend/theme cleanup needs, app/integration problems, and ongoing development work that needs a more thoughtful, technically strong owner. We are looking for someone who can become our go-to developer — not just someone who takes tickets and executes blindly. We need a proactive problem-solver who can diagnose issues, recommend smart solutions, communicate clearly, and help us improve the site over time. What You’ll Work On Responsibilities may include: - Improving site speed and performance - Cleaning up Shopify theme code and backend structure - Diagnosing and fixing bugs from the previous agency build - Supporting new development requests and site improvements - Updating existing templates - Creating new templates - Creating new cart capabilities, like bundling discounts - Reviewing app/integration issues and resolving conflicts - Communicating with external app teams, agencies, or technical partners when needed - Helping us make smart technical decisions for the site - Creating a cleaner, more stable, more scalable Shopify setup - Testing updates carefully before anything goes live - Documenting important fixes, changes, and recommendations What We’re Looking For You should have strong experience with: - Shopify theme development - Liquid, HTML, CSS, JavaScript - Shopify apps and third-party integrations - Site speed optimization - Debugging theme, app, and backend issues - Shopify admin/backend best practices - Git or another version control workflow - Clear QA/testing processes - Communicating technical issues in plain, fluent English Experience with ecommerce brands, wellness brands, or premium consumer products is a plus. Availability This is a part-time remote role. We are looking for someone available for roughly 10–20 hours/week depending on project load, Monday through Friday, with meaningful overlap during U.S. business hours. We are open to candidates in Latin America or other international locations, but we do need enough timezone overlap that we are not encountering a 6 to 12-hour communication delay on every issue. Communication & Ownership This is very important: we are looking for someone who can “own” development for us. That means you should be comfortable: - Asking good questions - Flagging problems before they become bigger issues - Explaining tradeoffs clearly - Recommending solutions, not just waiting for instructions - Speaking directly with external app support teams or technical - partners on behalf of SaunaSpace when needed - Following through until issues are truly resolved - We have internal team members who can support technical conversations, but we want someone who is confident enough to help drive resolutions instead of only working head-down on assigned tasks. Ideal Fit You might be a great fit if you are: - Highly experienced with Shopify - Detail-oriented and organized - Strong at troubleshooting messy builds - Comfortable inheriting imperfect code and cleaning it up - Communicative, responsive, and proactive - Available consistently during the workweek - Interested in a longer-term part-time relationship with a growing brand To Apply Please include: 1. Examples of Shopify sites you have worked on 2. A brief description of your Shopify development experience 3. Your experience with site speed optimization and debugging messy builds 4. Your usual working hours and timezone 5. Whether you are comfortable communicating directly with app providers or outside technical partners 6. Your hourly rate 7. Confirmation that you are available a few hours per day Monday through Friday with overlap during U.S. hours We are looking for someone highly capable, reliable, and thoughtful who can help us make our Shopify site faster, cleaner, and stronger.
