Part-Time Shopify Developer & SEO Specialist Employment Type: Part-Time / Contract (Freelance or Retainer) Estimated Hours: 10–20 hours/month (flexible based on workload) Location: Remote About the Role: We're looking for a versatile part-time specialist to manage and improve our Shopify brand website. This role combines hands-on Shopify development, SEO execution, and ongoing site maintenance. You'll be responsible for keeping the site running smoothly, improving its visibility in search, and making targeted design updates to improve flow, aesthetics, and mobile usability. This is a great fit for someone who enjoys variety — coding, content, and strategy — rather than being boxed into a single narrow function. Responsibilities - Shopify Development & Design - Customize and edit Shopify theme files using Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript - Make section-level layout adjustments to improve page flow and visual hierarchy - Improve mobile responsiveness and cross-device usability - Implement minor design refreshes (spacing, typography, imagery, navigation, etc.) - Troubleshoot theme bugs, broken layouts, or app conflicts SEO - Conduct keyword research relevant to our brand and products - Optimize on-page elements (titles, meta descriptions, headers, alt text, URL structure) - Monitor site performance via Google Search Console and Analytics - Identify and fix technical SEO issues (site speed, indexing, broken links, structured data) - Provide monthly reporting on rankings, traffic, and recommended next steps Website Maintenance - Perform regular content updates (products, pages, blog posts, banners, promotions) - Manage app/plugin updates and ensure site stability - Monitor uptime and troubleshoot minor issues as they arise - Coordinate with other vendors/developers if larger technical work is needed Requirements - Proven experience customizing Shopify themes at the code level (Liquid, CSS, HTML, JavaScript) — not just the drag-and-drop theme editor - Solid understanding of on-page and technical SEO best practices - Familiarity with Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and basic SEO tools (e.g., Ahrefs, SEMrush, or similar) - Strong eye for design, layout, and mobile-first usability - Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and meet monthly deliverables - Portfolio or examples of past Shopify projects (redesigns, theme edits, or SEO results) Nice to Have - Experience with Shopify apps/integrations (e.g., email marketing, reviews, upsell tools) - Basic graphic design skills (Figma, Canva, or similar) for visual asset tweaks - Experience working with small brands or e-commerce businesses Compensation Structure (Two-Phase) Phase 1 — Redesign Project (Month 1–2) Rate: Up to $15/hr Estimated hours: 60–80 hrs/month Scope: Full mobile-responsiveness pass, homepage and key template layout/flow redesign, on-page SEO overhaul, initial technical SEO audit and fixes Phase 2 — Ongoing Retainer (Month 3 onward) Rate: Up to $10/hr Estimated hours: 15–25 hrs/month Scope: Content updates, monthly SEO monitoring/reporting, minor design tweaks, app/plugin maintenance, site troubleshooting A short paid trial period (10–15 hours at the Phase 1 rate) will be used before committing to the full Phase 1 engagement.
