Pattern Maker Needed: Reverse-Engineer Flat Pattern from Finished Sunburst-Pleated Skirt

Posted 3 days ago

Summary

I have a finished, fan/sunburst pleated garment and I need someone to reverse-engineer the flat, unpleated pattern piece(s) that would produce this exact pleated shape and make a slight change the length. This is NOT a from-scratch design job. The pleat count, pleat depth, and finished proportions already exist in the physical garment. I need someone who understands pleat expansion math (how a flat panel pleats down into a fan/circle shape) to take measurements from my garment and translate that into a flat pattern I can have professionally pleated in new fabric. What I have: • A finished pleated garment (two panels, currently sunburst/fan-pleated, with a waistband) • Clear photos of the garment, the pleat folds, and the waistband construction • I’m available to take any additional measurements you need, or hop on a video call to walk through the physical piece together What I need from you: • A flat, unpleated pattern piece (likely a fan, half-circle, or three-quarter-circle shape) that, when pleated, would reproduce this exact finished shape • Delivered as a printable PDF pattern (needs to be able to be tiled across standard letter/A4 pages, I’ll be printing this at home) • If there are two distinct panels (left/right or front/back), please provide both, noting if one is just a mirror of the other Ideal candidate: • Experience with pleated garment construction or patternmaking (sunray/accordion/sunburst pleating specifically, not just general flat patternmaking) • Comfortable working from measurements + photos of an existing garment rather than a flat sketch • Can clearly explain pleat expansion ratio (i.e., how much wider the flat panel is than the finished pleated piece) so I understand the math for future reference
