# Payroll Module Design Consultant (US Payroll / SaaS Platform) ## Overview We are seeking an experienced Payroll System Design Consultant to help architect and design a modern payroll module for OperrWork, our workforce management SaaS platform. OperrWork currently provides employee management, attendance tracking, scheduling, timekeeping, overtime management, PTO, compliance tracking, and workforce reporting. We are now expanding into payroll and are looking for an expert who has designed payroll systems, payroll engines, tax calculation frameworks, or payroll software products. This engagement is focused on system architecture, payroll workflows, tax calculation design, compliance requirements, payroll journals, and implementation planning—not day-to-day payroll processing. ## Project Scope The consultant will help us design a scalable payroll architecture starting with New York State payroll and eventually expanding nationwide. Responsibilities include: * Design payroll system architecture and data model * Define payroll processing workflows * Design gross-to-net payroll calculation engine * Define Federal and New York payroll tax calculation requirements * Design support for: * W-2 employees * Contractors (1099) * Hourly employees * Salaried employees * Design payroll journals and accounting integrations * Define employer and employee tax liability tracking * Design payroll approval workflows * Define payroll reporting and audit trail requirements * Review compliance requirements and best practices * Recommend approaches for multi-state payroll expansion * Assist development team with implementation planning ## Initial Payroll Scope (Phase 1) The first phase will focus on New York payroll, including: * Federal Income Tax Withholding * Social Security * Medicare * Additional Medicare * New York State Income Tax * NYC Resident Tax * Yonkers Tax * New York Paid Family Leave (PFL) * New York Disability Benefits * New York Unemployment Insurance * Payroll Journal Entries * Paystub Design * Payroll Reporting ## Desired Experience Candidates should have experience with one or more of the following: * Payroll software architecture * Payroll tax engines * Payroll compliance systems * HRIS / Workforce Management platforms * Accounting integrations * Payroll implementations * Gusto, ADP, Paychex, Rippling, Workday, UKG, Paylocity, or similar platforms Experience designing payroll systems for software companies or SaaS products is highly preferred. ## Deliverables Expected deliverables may include: * Payroll architecture documentation * Database design recommendations * Payroll calculation framework * Tax rule design * Workflow diagrams * API recommendations * Payroll journal specifications * Development roadmap and implementation guidance ## Engagement Type Contract / Consultant Flexible hours with potential for long-term advisory engagement as we expand payroll functionality nationwide. ## To Apply Please include: 1.
