Summary

Title: Remote Legal Assistant Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST/EDT; One Saturday every other month (6 Saturdays in a year) 9:00 AM-3:00 PM EST/EDT Responsibilities: Calendar Maintenance: Manage and update the attorney's calendar, scheduling appointments, court dates, and deadlines. Legal Research: Conduct thorough legal research on cases, statutes, regulations, and legal precedents to support ongoing legal matters. Motion Practice: Assist in preparing and filing legal motions, pleadings, and other court documents. File Organization: Maintain organized electronic files for all cases, ensuring easy access to documents when needed. Schedule Review: a. Review the attorney's calendar weekly to ensure all commitments are accounted for. b. Stay updated on the status of current cases. c. Develop a two-week agenda outlining important tasks and deadlines. Attend Office Meetings: Participate in office meetings to discuss case updates, strategies, and priorities. Prepare Legal Billing Summaries: Assist in preparing billing statements, track billable hours, and ensure accurate invoicing. Internal Reporting: Draft beginning-of-day and end-of-day emails to the manager. Assist with Legal Cases: Provide comprehensive support to the attorney in various aspects of case management, including client communication and case documentation. Additional Legal Research: Conduct in-depth legal research as required for specific cases or legal issues. Drafting of Legal Documents and Letters: Prepare legal documents such as contracts, settlement agreements, letters, and legal memoranda. Proofreading of Legal Documents and Letters: Review and proofread legal documents for accuracy and consistency. Drafting: Assist in drafting legal documents, including pleadings, contracts, and correspondence. File Organization: Maintain an efficient and organized filing system for both electronic and physical documents. Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the attorney, including managing emails, answering calls, and coordinating appointments. Client Communication: Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and other parties as directed by the attorney. Deadline Management: Ensure that all court deadlines, filings, and submissions are met in a timely manner. Legal Document Management: Organize, track, and update legal documents, contracts, and agreements. Legal Billing Assistance: Assist in preparing invoices, tracking expenses, and managing billing records. Legal Software Proficiency: Utilize legal software and tools effectively to manage cases, documents, and billing. Qualifications: -Ability to speak clear English -Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience. -Previous experience as a legal assistant or in a similar role. -Strong research and organizational skills. -Proficiency in legal software and Microsoft Office Suite. -Excellent written and verbal communication skills. -Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. -Knowledge of legal terminology and procedures.
