Podcast editing - including sound effects and music overlay - Audio and Video

We are launching a new long-form storytelling podcast and are looking for an experienced audio and video editor to help bring each episode to life. The podcast combines true crime, history, investigation and cinematic storytelling. Episodes will generally run for around 45 to 60 minutes and will feature two hosts, Adam and Jake, telling the story together. We are looking for someone who can do much more than basic cuts and cleanup. The scripts include detailed sound design cues such as: Environmental ambience Footsteps Horses and carriage sounds Wind, rain and rural atmosphere Telegraph sounds Crowd noise Tension-building transitions Cinematic music Subtle audio effects that help place the listener inside the story The aim is to create an immersive documentary-style experience without making the sound design feel overdone or artificial. The editor will be responsible for: Cleaning and balancing the hosts' audio Removing unnecessary pauses, mistakes and background noise Improving pacing and flow Adding music, ambience and cinematic sound effects Following sound design directions provided in the script Making creative suggestions where sound could strengthen a scene Mixing and mastering the final podcast audio Editing the video version of each episode Syncing multiple camera angles where required Adding titles, images, archival material and other visual elements Creating clean transitions between hosts and story sections Exporting full-length episodes ready for YouTube and podcast platforms Potentially helping create short clips for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts The first episode we are developing is a historical true-crime story called: The Gatton Murders: The Tracks into Moran's Paddock The script is being written with a strong focus on atmosphere, historical accuracy and immersive storytelling. We want the listener to feel as though they are following the investigation in real time. We are looking for someone with a strong ear for storytelling. You should understand when to let a scene breathe, when silence is more effective than music, and when a subtle sound effect can completely change the way a moment feels. Experience editing podcasts, documentaries, true crime, cinematic YouTube content or narrative audio would be highly regarded. Please include examples of your previous work, particularly anything involving: Podcast editing Cinematic sound design Documentary editing True crime content Multi-camera video editing Story-driven YouTube content We are hoping to find someone we can work with long term as the podcast develops, rather than simply hiring an editor for one episode. The first episode will likely be audio only so the editing will be limited in scope.
