Primary English Curriculum Writer – Direct Instruction

We are hiring experienced primary teachers to develop explicit, classroom-ready English curriculum for Foundation to Year 6 (ages 5–12). This is an ongoing role requiring a commitment of approximately 30 hours per week. Primary classroom teaching experience is essential. Please do not apply if you have not taught in a primary classroom. You will develop scopes and sequences, lesson plans, teacher scripts, student workbook activities, digital lessons and assessment tasks. You will translate English curriculum outcomes and literacy content into explicit, structured and carefully sequenced learning for primary students. The program uses a Direct Instruction approach. Lessons require precise teacher language, clear explanations, carefully selected examples, guided practice, frequent student responses and cumulative review. You must be able to break complex literacy knowledge and skills into small, teachable steps and anticipate where students may experience difficulty. You will work with curriculum outcomes, lesson-development frameworks, templates, exemplars and source materials. You must be comfortable making curriculum decisions, analysing curriculum content, writing detailed instructional scripts and working within an established lesson structure. Required • Primary classroom teaching experience • Strong English and literacy curriculum knowledge • Strong written English and excellent attention to detail • Experience teaching reading, spelling, writing and grammar in primary classrooms • Experience planning structured and sequenced learning for primary students • Ability to break literacy knowledge and skills into clear, teachable steps • Ability to analyse curriculum content and sequence knowledge and skills into logical instructional steps • Ability to write precise teacher scripts, explanations, examples and student practice activities • Ability to follow detailed templates, instructions and our framework for lesson planning and development • Ability to commit approximately 30 hours each week • Availability for at least three hours during Australian Eastern business hours on each working day • Ability to maintain a consistent weekly schedule and work shifts of at least four hours • Ability to meet agreed deadlines and complete work within set timeframes • Strong proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel • Access to a PC computer (not Mac) with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel installed Advantageous • Knowledge of the Australian Curriculum • Experience with Direct Instruction or other explicit instruction approaches • Curriculum-writing or educational publishing experience • Experience developing Literacy curriculum programs from the beginning Although you may initially begin on a defined project or contract, there are opportunities for ongoing, long-term work.
