Summary

I am looking for a skilled Mechanical Engineer to assist with the design, automation, and simulation of a structural metamaterial wall intended for a soft robotics manipulator. The core geometry has already been conceptualized (reference images of the single wall and the full radial assembly will be provided). To provide a clear understanding of the scope, the current 10x scaled dimensions for the 3D printable model are as follows: Overall Outer Radius: 65.0 mm (Inner radial offset: 10.0 mm) Metamaterial Height: 60.0 mm Top/Bottom Rigid Plates: 3.0 mm thickness each Wall Extrusion Depth: 10.0 mm Strut Thickness: 2.0 mm Configuration: 6 radial walls, each consisting of a 3x3 unit cell array. The project requires recreating the model in CAD, writing a script for automated dimensional adjustments, performing structural simulations, and producing final manufacturing drafts. Project Milestones (Total Fixed Budget: $100): Milestone 1: 3D CAD Modeling & 3D Print Preparation ($25) Draft the 3D model of the metamaterial wall and the complete assembly using SolidWorks based on the provided dimensions. Ensure the geometry avoids zero-thickness errors and is fully optimized for 3D printing. Deliverables: Standard STEP files and high-resolution STL files ready for slicing. Milestone 2: Parametric Scripting & Automation ($25) Develop a script (using Python, CadQuery, or SolidWorks API/macros) to automate the generation of the wall geometry. The script must allow for rapid iteration by changing key parameters (e.g., unit cell dimensions, wall thickness, depth, and number of rows/columns) to instantly output updated CAD files. Deliverables: Clean, well-commented source code/script and instructions for execution. Milestone 3: Finite Element Analysis (FEA) ($25) Perform structural analysis on a single metamaterial wall using Abaqus, COMSOL Multiphysics, or ANSYS. Evaluate stress distribution, bending behavior, and deformation under applied loads. Deliverables: Simulation source files, a brief report outlining the methodology, and contour plots of the results. Milestone 4: Manufacturing Drawings ($25) Create detailed 2D technical drawings for the parts and the final assembly. Include all necessary dimensions, tolerances, and assembly notes. Deliverables: PDF drawing sheets and native drawing files. Required Skills: Expertise in SolidWorks. Strong programming skills for CAD automation (Python). Experience setting up and solving structural problems in Abaqus, COMSOL, or ANSYS. Solid understanding of Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM). Please include a brief overview of your experience with parametric modeling and FEA in your proposal.
