Research Interview: Freelancers Using AI to Work Outside Their Main Field ( 60 min Zoom) Description: We're a research team studying how freelancers use AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini to do work outside their main area of expertise. That could look like: Moving into a different field than the one you originally trained or built your career in Taking on client work in an area you hadn't done before, with AI helping you bridge the gap Collaborating on cross-disciplinary projects where you need to understand teammates from other specialties (e.g., a designer working with developers, a writer working with data analysts, a marketer working with engineers) Exploring a new field to see if it's something you could realistically move into We want to hear from freelancers at any stage of this — people actively switching fields, people who tried and pulled back, people doing collaborative cross-disciplinary work, and people who are just starting to explore. Your experience will help us understand how AI is reshaping what's possible for freelancers, and inform the design of better tools for career transitions and cross-disciplinary work. What's involved: A single 60 minute interview over Zoom, scheduled at a time that works for you. You're a good fit if you: Are 18 or older Have at least 1 year of active freelancing experience on Upwork, Fiverr, or a similar platform Have used AI tools to learn about, work in, or collaborate across a field outside your main expertise (or seriously explored doing so) Are comfortable being interviewed in English Have a reliable internet connection and a computer/laptop for Zoom
