Summary

Please Read Before Applying To help me evaluate applicants, I strongly prefer that you include a short introduction video (1–3 minutes) with your proposal. A simple webcam or screen recording is perfectly fine—I'm much more interested in getting a sense of how you communicate and think than in a professionally produced video. In your video, please briefly introduce yourself and tell me: Your background in research, writing, or knowledge management Your experience with Obsidian or other research organization systems An example of a large writing or research project you've helped organize Why you think you'd be a good fit for this project Applicants who include a short video will receive priority consideration. Job Title Research Workflow & Obsidian Consultant for Large Writing and Research Projects About the Project I'm looking for an experienced researcher, writer, or knowledge management specialist to help me design a long-term system for organizing research and developing writing projects. I work on multiple research-intensive projects, including historical research, genealogy, memoir writing, consulting, and other long-form writing. Over the years I've accumulated a large collection of research materials, including documents, photographs, transcripts, PDFs, articles, audio recordings, videos, and notes. My challenge isn't finding information—it's creating a system that allows me to organize, connect, retrieve, and ultimately transform that information into high-quality writing. I'm interested in building a sustainable research workflow, potentially using Obsidian as the foundation, although I'm open to other recommendations if there's a better approach. What I'm Looking For I'm seeking someone who can serve as both a consultant and coach to help me develop a professional research and writing workflow. Responsibilities may include: Assessing my current research organization Designing a knowledge management system Helping organize large collections of research materials Creating logical folder structures and note hierarchies Developing consistent naming conventions Building workflows for processing new research Creating systems to connect related ideas and sources Teaching me best practices for research organization Developing writing workflows from research to finished manuscript Helping organize citations, source material, and supporting documentation Providing ongoing coaching as the system develops Types of Material The system should be able to organize and connect: Research notes Historical documents PDFs Books and articles Images and photographs Audio recordings Video files Interview transcripts Scanned archival materials Web research Personal notes and observations Desired Skills Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable: Obsidian Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) Zettelkasten or linked-note systems Knowledge graphs Digital archives Academic or historical research Genealogical research Long-form nonfiction writing Memoir development Research database design Information architecture Metadata and tagging systems What Success Looks Like By the end of this engagement, I'd like to have: A scalable research system that can grow over time A consistent process for capturing and organizing information A structure that connects related ideas and sources A workflow that moves efficiently from research to writing Confidence using the system independently Documentation and templates for future projects Ideal Background I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have helped authors, historians, academics, consultants, journalists, genealogists, or researchers organize complex information into a system that supports long-term writing projects. This is likely to begin as a consulting and coaching engagement, with the potential for an ongoing relationship as my research and writing projects continue to evolve.
