We're looking for a talented journalist, feature writer, or creative nonfiction storyteller to research and write compelling, long-form articles covering the rapidly evolving world of U.S. college admissions. We're looking for someone who can identify emerging stories, investigate the facts, interview available sources when appropriate, analyze trends, and craft engaging articles that people actually want to read. Our readers include students, parents, educators, counselors, and others who follow higher education and college admissions. We want thoughtful, well-researched reporting that explains not just what happened, but why it matters. Articles will be published across our website, Medium publications, LinkedIn, and other platforms. Topics You May Cover: - Changes to admissions policies at individual colleges - Supreme Court decisions and legal developments - Standardized testing trends (SAT/ACT) - Common App and Coalition Application updates - Financial aid, FAFSA, scholarships, and affordability - AI and technology in admissions - College rankings and higher education trends - Admissions scandals and investigations - University announcements and strategic initiatives - State and federal education policy - Student behavior and application trends - Admissions data and acceptance rates - Emerging trends identified through research and reporting We're interested in stories ranging from a single university announcement to nationwide developments affecting millions of students. Responsibilities - Research current news and emerging trends in U.S. college admissions - Gather information from credible primary and secondary sources - Read research papers, institutional reports, government publications, and news coverage - Verify facts and statistics - Write engaging long-form articles (typically 800–1,500+ words) - Explain complex topics in a clear, accessible way - Meet deadlines consistently - Revise articles based on editorial feedback - The Writer We're Looking For Ideal candidates have experience with one or more of the following: - Journalism - Magazine writing - Investigative reporting - Creative nonfiction - Long-form feature writing - Higher education reporting - Policy reporting - Research-driven storytelling - You know how to turn information into narrative. Rather than simply summarizing facts, you're able to build tension, provide context, introduce interesting characters or institutions, explain competing viewpoints, and keep readers engaged from beginning to end. Requirements - Excellent English writing skills - Strong research abilities - Ability to synthesize information from multiple credible sources - Experience writing long-form articles - Strong attention to factual accuracy - Ability to write in an objective, journalistic style - Ability to meet deadlines consistently - Experience covering education, higher education, or public policy is a strong plus but not required. - What Success Looks Like Your articles should: - Capture attention immediately - Read like professional magazine or newspaper features - Be accurate and well sourced - Provide meaningful analysis—not just summarize the news - Offer clear context and implications - Keep readers engaged through the entire article - Be publication-ready with no additional editing
