Role Overview The Institute of Project Management (IPM) is seeking an AI Researcher to research emerging artificial intelligence trends and assess their relevance to project management education and professional practice. The role involves monitoring new AI technologies and market developments, evaluating how they may influence project management, and translating research findings into practical recommendations for course content, lecturers, and future educational programmes. The successful candidate will combine formal research skills with strong knowledge of AI, technology, project management, education, and commercial application. Key Responsibilities - Monitor the market for emerging AI technologies, tools, research, and industry trends. - Research and assess new developments in artificial intelligence and related technologies. -Evaluate how emerging AI capabilities can be applied within project management. -Identify how AI may change project management roles, processes, tools, and professional practices. -Translate technical and academic research into clear, practical, and accessible insights. -Review existing project management course content and recommend updates based on new AI developments. -Work with lecturers, subject-matter experts, and course development teams to ensure learning materials remain current and relevant. -Support the development of course content, case studies, learning activities, lecturer resources, and educational materials. -Identify gaps in existing course content arising from developments in AI and technology. -Develop research reports, trend summaries, recommendations, and educational resources. -Identify opportunities for new AI-focused courses, workshops, certifications, and commercial offerings. -Evaluate the commercial potential and practical value of emerging AI technologies. -Support the responsible and ethical use of AI within project management education and professional practice. -Maintain an organised research database of relevant AI tools, trends, use cases, and developments. -Provide support with general IT or technology-related queries when required, including assisting with basic troubleshooting or identifying the appropriate solution or support route. Requirements -Strong knowledge of artificial intelligence, generative AI, emerging technologies, and current market developments. -Good understanding of project management principles, processes, and professional practice. -Ability to connect AI developments with practical project management applications and educational content. -Ability to translate complex technical information for lecturers, learners, project professionals, and non-technical audiences. -Strong research, analytical, written communication, and report-writing skills. -Strong commercial awareness and the ability to identify viable educational and business opportunities. -Ability to distinguish meaningful AI developments from short-term market trends or hype. -Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple research priorities. -Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders. -Confidence in presenting research findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences. -Preferred: Familiarity with AI governance, responsible AI, data protection, and emerging AI regulation. Education and Experience -A relevant degree or postgraduate qualification in artificial intelligence, computer science, data science, technology, education, research, or a related discipline. -3–5 years of relevant experience in AI research, technology research, educational research, innovation, or a related field. -Demonstrated experience working within education, professional training, higher education, academic research, curriculum development, instructional design, or learning content development. -Experience developing, reviewing, or improving educational programmes, course materials, lecturer resources, or professional training content. -Formal research experience, including gathering, evaluating, comparing, and synthesising information from credible academic, industry, and technology sources. -Preferred: Experience in professional education, certification, educational technology, or corporate learning.
