Every year, 28 million Americans are touched by death. Almost all of them start the same way: alone, at midnight, typing a question into a search bar. "What do I do when someone dies." "How do I settle an estate." "First-time executor, where do I start." Otherside Life is the company that answers. We're building the operating system for the end of life — coordination, planning, and support for people who are dying, grieving, or caring for someone who is. This role makes sure that when someone searches for help in the hardest moment of their life, they find us — whether they're searching Google or asking ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Claude. We already have a full content calendar and an editorial content lead driving it. What we need now is someone senior who owns the search side: auditing the site, building landing pages that rank, and capturing visibility in both classic organic search and the new world of AI-generated answers. You'll work directly with our editorial content lead — they own the words and the calendar; you own the strategy, structure, and growth. What you'll own A full technical and content SEO audit of othersidelife.com, with a prioritized roadmap Building out new landing pages that rank for long-tail, death-related search terms (executor checklists, estate logistics, grief support, end-of-life planning, and the long tail beneath each) On-page, technical, and internal-linking optimization across the existing site Keyword and topic strategy, fed to the editorial content lead to shape the calendar Organic search growth — traffic, rankings, and qualified visits as the headline metrics AI search / Generative Engine Optimization (GEO): getting Otherside Life cited and surfaced in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Google AI Overviews Who we're looking for A senior SEO specialist who has done this before and can prove it — someone who has taken a site, found the opportunity, built the pages, and moved the rankings. You think in topic clusters and search intent, not keyword stuffing. You're technically fluent (site structure, schema, Core Web Vitals, indexation) and you can also see the content forest, not just the trees. Critically, you understand that AI search is not a someday problem. Generative engines are already eating informational queries, and the death-care space is exactly the kind of high-intent, question-driven territory where citation visibility wins. You have a real point of view on how to get a brand surfaced and cited inside AI answers, not just blue links. Context that matters here This is sensitive territory. Our content lives near legal, financial, and medical topics, but Otherside Life is a coordination platform — we help families organize and navigate, we don't give legal, financial, medical, or funeral advice. Every page you build or optimize has to respect that line. You'll work with the editorial lead to keep content helpful and rankable without ever crossing into advice we're not here to give. One brand note worth knowing going in: we rank and build under "Otherside Life," not "Otherside" alone — the latter is dominated by an unrelated metaverse brand, so disambiguation is part of the SEO challenge. Tools & requirements Proven senior-level SEO track record with results you can show (before/after rankings, traffic, pages built) Strong technical SEO: site audits, schema, internal linking, indexation, page experience Landing page strategy and on-page optimization for long-tail, high-intent queries Hands-on experience with Generative Engine Optimization / AI search visibility Comfortable collaborating with an editorial content lead rather than owning the writing yourself Bonus: familiarity with our stack — Surfer SEO, SE Ranking, AthenaHQ — or strong equivalents Bonus: experience optimizing WordPress sites
