SEO Specialist Needed — Technical SEO Fixes Across 3 WordPress Sites

Summary

Project Overview We're a marketing agency managing SEO for three related sports-industry clients, all on WordPress with Yoast SEO. A technical SEO audit identified a set of fixes that need to be implemented across all three sites. Because these are three separate websites with their own themes/templates, each fix needs to be done individually per site — this is not a single fix applied once to all three. Sites involved: internationalda.com (IDA) — soccer player development / academies globalsportsexperiences.com (GSE) — soccer travel & tournaments newenglandsurf.com (NES) — youth soccer club All three run WordPress with Yoast SEO installed. Scope of Work 1. Collapse Multiple H1 Tags to One Per Page Homepages currently have 5–7 H1 tags because the theme uses the H1 tag for styling rather than SEO structure. Audit each major page template (homepage, standard page, blog post, event/program page) to find every H1 instance Identify which one should remain the true H1 (usually the main page title) Change the rest to H2 or an appropriate tag, adjusting CSS classes as needed to preserve visual design QA across page types to confirm styling didn't break and only one H1 remains 2. www → non-www 301 Redirect + Canonical Setup Both www and non-www versions of each site currently resolve, splitting authority and confusing crawlers. Confirm current canonical setting (all three already point to non-www) Set up a site-wide 301 redirect from www to non-www (via hosting/server config, .htaccess, or a redirect plugin) Set the preferred domain property in Google Search Console Test that the redirect works cleanly with no redirect chains/loops 3. Remove Crawl-Delay from robots.txt All three sites have Crawl-delay: 10 in robots.txt. Google ignores it, but Bing honors it and crawls 10x slower for no benefit. Locate and edit robots.txt (directly or via Yoast's robots.txt editor) Remove the crawl-delay line Verify via Search Console / Bing Webmaster Tools that robots.txt reads correctly post-edit 4. Add Descriptive Alt Text to Key Images Missing or poor alt text sitewide; GSE in particular uses raw uploaded filenames instead of descriptive text. This covers key/high-traffic images, not every image on the site. Identify key pages (homepage, top program/event pages, top-trafficked blog posts) and pull their images Write descriptive, keyword-relevant alt text for each Update via WordPress media library or in-page image blocks Spot-check a sample of pages post-update 5. Noindex Thin Taxonomy/Archive Pages Author, tag, category, and other taxonomy archive pages are thin and bloating the sitemap/index with low-value pages. Review which archive types exist and are indexed on each site (Yoast → Search Appearance) Set the relevant archive types to noindex in Yoast Confirm the updated XML sitemap reflects the change Submit updated sitemap in Search Console if needed 6. Structured Data / Schema Markup Structured data is thin or missing across all three sites. This includes baseline Organization schema sitewide, plus site-specific schema types: IDA: Course schema (academies) GSE: Event schema (tournaments) NES: Event schema (tournaments/camps) + LocalBusiness schema Work involved: Configure Yoast's built-in Organization/knowledge graph settings sitewide (logo, name, social profiles, etc.) Implement the site-specific schema type — typically via a schema plugin (e.g., Schema Pro) or custom JSON-LD added to relevant page templates, pulling in dynamic fields (course name/price, event name/date/location, business address/hours) Test each schema type using Google's Rich Results Test QA across a sample of pages using each schema type Estimated Scope Based on our internal planning estimate, this project runs roughly 30–40 hours total across all three sites (approx. 9.5–13.5 hours per site). This is a starting reference point — please review each site and confirm/adjust your own estimate as part of your proposal, since actual hours can vary depending on theme complexity and existing setup. Deliverables Confirmation of H1 structure fixed on all major templates, per site Working 301 redirect map (www → non-www) verified live, per site Updated robots.txt per site with crawl-delay removed List of pages/images updated with new alt text Confirmation of noindex settings applied to thin archive pages Schema markup implemented and validated via Google's Rich Results Test, per site Brief written summary of what was changed on each site Requirements Proven experience with WordPress and Yoast SEO Comfortable editing theme templates/child themes (not just content edits) Experience implementing schema markup (JSON-LD or a schema plugin) Experience with server-level or plugin-based redirects Careful, detail-oriented — this involves touching live client sites, so accuracy matters more than speed Clear communicator — brief written summary expected per site upon completion Timeline We'd like this completed within 3–4 weeks of start, working through the sites in the order we'll confirm at kickoff. To Apply Please include: Examples of similar technical SEO / WordPress template work Your approach to implementing schema markup across multiple site types (course, event, local business) Your own hours estimate for this scope, and availability
