3D Sculptor Needed for Ongoing Product Work — FDM Print-Ready Models (Blender/ZBrush/Nomad)
Worldwide
I run a growing 3D printing product business and need a skilled sculptor for steady long-term weekly work. The work I use AI tools to generate rough 3D models that are 70-90% done. Most jobs are taking those meshes the rest of the way: Correcting proportions and resculpting weak areas Matching reference images accurately Some full sculpts from scratch Some light functional work: part splitting, hardware pockets, simple assembly joints Subjects cover a wide range: characters, creatures, animals, figurines, seasonal decor, home and desk pieces, props. Styles change from project to project, so versatility matters more than one signature look. Each job includes: the rough model, reference images, written notes with any dimensions or specs, and an expected turnaround. Job size varies. Some take 15 minutes, some take a few hours. What "print-ready" means here This is what separates good candidates. The goal is models that print cleanly on an FDM printer, ideally at 0.28mm layer height with minimal supports. Not every model can hit that, and I understand that. What matters is that you design toward it: Reduce overhangs where you can Favor steeper angles over shallow ones Flat bases where parts need them Sensible split planes on multi-part models Slice your own work to check it before delivery The reference always comes first. Printability is optimized within it. If you already think this way while you sculpt, or you have real 3D printing experience of your own, you're exactly who I'm looking for. Print experience is a big plus. Also worth mentioning I'm separately planning to hire a CAD designer for functional work like assemblies, tolerances, and mechanisms (Fusion 360 or similar). If you're strong in both sculpting and CAD, say so in your application. You'd be first in line for that work too, which means more jobs and more bonus money for you. Communication Strong written English is required. All work runs through written briefs and comments. You'll work independently and jobs come with everything you need, and I'm responsive to questions in the job thread. Pay $6/hr base rate through Upwork Plus a $6 bonus for every model you complete Bonus is per model, no cap, paid weekly as a lump sum based on that week's completed models The faster and more efficiently you work, the more you earn per hour Time is tracked through Upwork's desktop app (Work Diary); manual time is not enabled. Steady volume, currently 10–15 models per week and growing. This is ongoing work with no end date, not a one-off project. You deliver: print-ready STL plus your source file, correctly scaled. Delivered work is exclusive to my business, no portfolio posting or reuse. I'm not hiring for a project, I'm hiring a person. The goal is a long-term working relationship where your workload and earnings grow as the business does. To start: a short paid test of 2–3 small jobs, each paid on delivery. Each will pay $5.
