Senior Android Real-Time 3D Rendering Engineer for High-Quality Animated Avatar

We are looking for an experienced Android real-time 3D rendering engineer to build and optimize a high-quality animated avatar experience. The most important part of this project is achieving excellent rendering quality on Android, including: - Smooth and natural facial and upper-body motion - High-quality lighting and shadows - Stable real-time performance - Realistic materials, skin, hair, eyes, and clothing - Consistent visual quality across different Android devices We will provide an existing Blender file or GLB avatar. The avatar may already include a skeleton, materials, textures, animations, and ARKit-compatible facial blendshapes. This is primarily an Android rendering and graphics optimization role, not a 3D modeling role. However, experience working with Blender, GLB, glTF, rigged characters, and ARKit blendshapes is strongly preferred. Primary Responsibilities - Build or integrate a real-time 3D avatar renderer into an Android application. - Render rigged GLB or glTF avatars with high visual quality. - Animate facial blendshapes, head rotation, neck movement, and upper-body motion in real time. - Ensure that facial expressions and body movements appear smooth, natural, and responsive. - Create a high-quality lighting setup suitable for realistic or stylized human avatars. - Improve the appearance of skin, hair, eyes, teeth, clothing, and accessories. - Implement smooth interpolation and filtering for incoming motion and facial-tracking data. - Eliminate visible jitter, sudden movement, animation popping, and unstable transitions. - Profile and optimize CPU, GPU, memory, and frame-rendering performance on Android. - Maintain stable performance on both high-end and mid-range Android devices. - Optimize shaders, materials, textures, meshes, blendshapes, bones, and animation updates. - Reduce draw calls, overdraw, shader complexity, texture-memory usage, and frame-time spikes. - Optimize avatar loading time and runtime memory consumption. - Identify and resolve rendering differences between Android devices and GPU vendors. Highest-Priority Skills Android Real-Time 3D Rendering You should have strong experience with one or more of the following: - Android OpenGL ES - Vulkan - Google Filament - Unity for Android - Unreal Engine for Android - SceneView or similar Android 3D frameworks - Custom native Android rendering engines - Other production-ready mobile 3D rendering technologies You should understand the Android graphics pipeline and be comfortable profiling rendering performance on real devices. Rendering Quality You should have experience improving: - Physically based rendering materials - Skin appearance - Hair and transparency rendering - Eye reflections and eye materials - Directional, ambient, and environment lighting - Image-based lighting and HDR environments - Shadows and ambient occlusion - Tone mapping and color management - Anti-aliasing - Post-processing - Material consistency - Visual quality across different Android GPUs Motion Smoothness You should understand how to produce smooth real-time avatar motion using techniques such as: - Motion interpolation - Exponential smoothing - Low-pass filtering - One Euro filtering - Quaternion interpolation - Blendshape interpolation - Animation blending - Frame-rate-independent animation - Input buffering - Jitter reduction - Handling delayed or inconsistent tracking data The avatar may receive facial blendshape values, head pose, neck pose, and upper-body motion data continuously from an external tracking system. Android Performance Optimization You should be able to measure and optimize: - CPU frame time - GPU frame time - Frames per second - Frame pacing - Dropped frames - Memory usage - Texture memory - Shader compilation - Draw calls - Triangle and vertex count - Blendshape update cost - Skeleton and bone update cost - Transparency and overdraw - Thermal throttling - Battery consumption Experience with Android profiling tools is strongly preferred, including tools such as: - Android GPU Inspector - Android Studio Profiler - Perfetto - RenderDoc - Snapdragon Profiler - Unity Profiler - Mali Graphics Debugger - Other mobile GPU profiling tools - Preferred 3D Asset Experience Although we expect to provide the avatar asset, the following experience is preferred: - Blender - GLB, glTF, FBX, or VRM - Rigged humanoid characters - Skeletons and bone hierarchies - Skinning and weight painting - Shape keys and morph targets - ARKit 52 facial blendshapes - Facial animation - Head, neck, and upper-body rigs - Texture and material optimization - Mesh and polygon optimization - Level of detail systems - Fixing GLB export and compatibility issues You do not need to be primarily a 3D artist, but you should be able to inspect a Blender or GLB asset and identify problems that affect Android rendering, animation quality, or performance.
