Senior Construction Bookkeeper

You will own the books for U.S. small and mid-size construction businesses — running job costing that allocates labor and material costs to individual jobs, tracking retainage across projects, managing progress billing from estimate through final retention release, and processing construction payroll with employee time-log imports and labor allocation by job. You will correspond directly with U.S.-based clients over email and build the job-profitability reporting owners rely on. This is a senior, construction-specific role. Remote, full-time, U.S. business hours. What you’ll do Run job costing — allocate labor and material costs to individual jobs and handle indirect costs. Track retainage across active projects, from progress invoices through final retention release. Manage progress billing — estimates, progress invoices, and reconciliation. Process construction payroll with employee time-log imports and labor allocation by job. Perform daily bank reconciliations, invoicing, payment processing, and vendor bill management. Build the job-profitability reports owners use to run the business. Correspond directly with U.S.-based clients over email. What we’re looking for 3–5+ years of hands-on construction bookkeeping — job costing, retainage tracking, progress billing, and construction payroll with labor allocation by job. Fluent written English for direct U.S. client email. Availability during U.S. business hours (approx. 9:00 AM–5:00 PM US time). Hands-on experience with accounting or construction software (QuickBooks, Buildertrend, Procore, Foundation, Sage, or similar). Nice to have Experience with construction-specific platforms such as Buildertrend, Procore, Foundation, or Sage 300 CRE. Experience tracking many active jobs at once for a growing contractor. Experience owning the full bookkeeping function end-to-end for a construction client.
