Senior Data Architect – Healthcare Data Platform (FHIR/HL7)

We are seeking an experienced Data Architect with strong healthcare interoperability expertise to help build and scale our next-generation healthcare data platform. This is a hands-on remote role for someone who enjoys solving complex healthcare data challenges and designing robust, cloud-native architectures. You will lead the design and implementation of data ingestion frameworks that transform fragmented clinical data into interoperable, actionable datasets that support better patient outcomes and healthcare innovation. Responsibilities: Design and own end-to-end healthcare data ingestion architectures involving: FHIR HL7v2 CSV and flat-file imports Clinical documents and raw healthcare artifacts Build and enhance integration components, including: SFTP-based hospital integrations FHIR connectors and API ingestion services Large-file and multipart upload mechanisms Develop scalable ingestion pipelines for large healthcare datasets such as DICOM imaging and genomics data. Integrate with major EHR systems, including Epic, Cerner, and Athena. Implement secure OAuth2-based connectivity, incremental synchronization, pagination, and rate-limit handling. Define FHIR normalization strategies and validation processes using tools such as Firely. Establish canonical data models, schema governance, and data contracts. Design resilient workflows featuring: Idempotency Retry mechanisms Error handling Monitoring and observability Quarantine and reprocessing capabilities Integrate with HL7 interface engines such as Mirth Connect. Implement governance practices covering data lineage, auditability, and HIPAA compliance. Mentor engineers and contribute to architectural decisions and best practices. Required Qualifications: 6–8+ years of experience in Data Engineering or Data Architecture. Proven experience with healthcare interoperability standards: FHIR HL7v2 Hands-on experience integrating with EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athena. Strong expertise in AWS or Azure cloud environments. Experience designing scalable pipelines for structured and unstructured healthcare data. Familiarity with Kubernetes, microservices, and event-driven architectures. Strong understanding of REST APIs, OAuth2, and secure data exchange. Knowledge of healthcare compliance standards, particularly HIPAA.
