Senior Instructional Designer for Research-Driven eLearning Projects

We're looking for an experienced Instructional Designer to join our team on a freelance basis to support a variety of custom eLearning projects. Our clients span industries such as healthcare, technology, engineering, manufacturing, workforce development, and professional associations. The content is often highly specialized, so we're looking for someone who enjoys diving into complex topics and turning them into engaging learning experiences. This is not a rapid content-conversion role. We value instructional thinking, research, and the ability to ask the right questions. What you'll do Conduct research to understand unfamiliar industries and technical topics Analyze client source materials, SMEs, and documentation Identify content gaps and recommend instructional approaches Develop learning objectives, curriculum outlines, and instructional alignment documents Write clear, engaging scripts and storyboards Structure complex information into learner-friendly experiences Collaborate with project managers, SMEs, designers, and media teams Revise content based on client feedback We're looking for someone who Has 5+ years of instructional design experience Has worked with technical, scientific, healthcare, engineering, compliance, or other specialized content Is an exceptional researcher and can quickly learn new industries Can simplify complex concepts without oversimplifying them Has excellent English writing skills Thinks critically instead of simply organizing content Is detail-oriented and highly organized Is comfortable working independently and managing deadlines Bonus points if you have experience with Adult learning theory Storyline 360 and Rise 360 AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, etc.) to accelerate research and content development Working directly with subject matter experts Creating curriculum maps or instructional alignment documents To apply Please include: A brief introduction about your instructional design experience.
