Senior Java/Spring Boot Engineer for API Migration

We (SmartHires dot com) are seeking a senior Java/Spring Boot engineer to migrate our legacy DWR to REST APIs. The ideal candidate will have experience in API development and integration, with a strong understanding of RESTful architecture. The role involves designing and implementing REST APIs to replace existing DWR endpoints, ensuring seamless integration with our current system. Phase 1 — Audit (Fixed Price) Phase 1 is paid regardless of whether we proceed to Phase 2. Include your fixed price for Phase 1 in your proposal. It is the starting point that scopes everything else. • Run audit commands against the codebase to identify all DWR configuration, exported Java classes, exposed methods, and JavaScript callers • Produce a complete method inventory: class, method, HTTP type, JavaScript caller files, call count, and your hours estimate per method • Identify any methods requiring special handling (real-time push, complex authentication, unusual data types) • Deliverable: audit spreadsheet delivered within 5 business days of code access Phase 2 — REST Migration (Hourly, rate agreed before starting) • For each DWR method: create a @RestController endpoint in Spring Boot with correct HTTP verb, input validation, error handling, and authentication • Update the JavaScript caller from DWR proxy to standard fetch() • Test each replacement in our QA environment -- verify zero /dwr/ requests in browser dev tools for each feature • After all methods replaced: remove DWR from pom.xml, rebuild, confirm clean compile and full regression pass • Deliverable: pull requests per method, QA confirmation, final clean build with DWR fully removed
